Annual General Body Meeting & Election 2026–27

Venue: Urwa Church Hall, Mangalore

The Annual General Body Meeting and Election for the year 2026–27 of the Young Catholic Students (YCS), Diocese of Mangalore, was held on 5th July 2026 at Urwa Church Hall, Mangalore.

The programme commenced with the inaugural ceremony, which was gracefully compered by Aashna D'Souza. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Ryan Mendonca, President of YCS Diocese of Mangalore, while the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Crystal Lopes.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Pinto, Parish Priest of Urwa, who was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. On the occasion, the annual YCS magazine, Yuvatare, was officially released by the Chief Guest, marking another milestone in the Diocese's literary and youth initiatives.

In his inspiring address, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Pinto reminded the students that even an ordinary person can become a great leader and rise to the position of president through dedication, commitment, and hard work. He encouraged the young leaders to shine like stars during their student life and emphasized that leadership is about working together as a team. Quoting the words of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, he stressed the importance of dreaming big, saying that dreams lead to great achievements. He also highlighted that the leaders elected today will shape the future of the Diocese of Mangalore and wished all the candidates and delegates success in their responsibilities.

A special session on "The Future of Jobs – How Work Will Evolve Over the Next Five Years" was conducted by Mr. Jeevan Lobo. He spoke about the changing world of work, emerging career opportunities, technological advancements, and the importance of developing leadership, communication, and life skills to face future challenges with confidence.

During the programme, Amica Frank, who successfully completed her term as a NEXCO Member, and Venus Wilfred Lewis, who completed his term as the Regional Treasurer, were felicitated in appreciation of their dedicated service and valuable contributions to the YCS movement. Janet Pinto, Diocesan Coordinator, introduced both the outgoing leaders, highlighting their commitment, leadership qualities, and selfless service during their respective tenures. She expressed gratitude for their remarkable contributions and wished them God's abundant blessings in their future endeavours.

The closing ceremony was graced by Mr. Mithesh D'Souza as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized that leadership is the foundation of every successful organization and encouraged the newly elected office bearers to lead with commitment, humility, responsibility, and a spirit of service. He urged them to work together for the growth of the YCS movement and wished the newly elected diocesan team a fruitful tenure.

During the closing ceremony, the newly elected Diocesan Executive Committee for the year 2026–27 took their oath of office, pledging to serve the Church, society, and the YCS movement with dedication and sincerity.

The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Director of YCS, Diocese of Mangalore. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the chief guests, the resource person, delegates, organizers, parish members, and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the Annual General Body Meeting and Election.

The programme concluded on a joyful and hopeful note, marking the beginning of a new chapter of leadership for the Young Catholic Students, Diocese of Mangalore, with a renewed commitment to serve the Church and society.

YCS Diocese of Mangalore Organises EMPOWER 2K26

The Young Catholic Students (YCS), Diocese of Mangalore, successfully organized EMPOWER 2K26 at St. Rita Church Hall, Cascia, Mangalore, with enthusiastic participation from YCS  Animators across the Diocese.

The programme was inaugurated by Msgr. Maxim L. Noronha, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mangalore, who, during his inaugural address, emphasized the significant role of YCS animators in moulding young people into responsible and faith-filled leaders. He extended his best wishes for the success of the programme.

The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Msgr. Maxim L. Noronha, along with YCS Director Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Diocesan Coordinator Ms. Janet Pinto, Animator Mr. Ruben D'Souza, Diocesan President Ryan Mendonca, and Diocesan Secretary Sweedal D'Souza.

Rev. Fr. Rithesh Rodrigues, Parish Priest of Cascia and Guest of Honour, encouraged the gathering, stating that this is the right time to train and empower the youth, who are the future of the Church and society.

The gathering was welcomed by Jeanne, while Joslyn compered the inaugural programme.

The event featured two informative sessions conducted by Ms. Vandana D'Souza and Mr. Elson D'Souza, followed by a panel discussion led by Rev. Fr. Rupesh Madtha and Mr. Richard Alvares, providing valuable insights and interactive learning opportunities for the participants.

The valedictory programme was graced by Rev. Fr. Naveen Pinto, Judicial Vicar and Convener of Pastoral Commissions, Diocese of Mangalore. In his address, he encouraged YCS students to have a clear direction in life and remain committed to their mission as responsible Catholic youth. The valedictory programme was compered by Sweedal D'Souza, while Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, YCS Director, proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme concluded on a positive note, inspiring the participants to continue their journey as committed leaders, rooted in faith, service, and social responsibility.

YCS Vanamahotsav at St Francis Xavier’s Church, Ferar Parish, Mangalore Diocese

As part of the RSLTP action plan, the YCS unit of Ferar Parish, Mangalore Diocese organized a meaningful tree plantation drive at St Francis Xavier’s Church, Ferar on June 7, 2025.

The program began at 8:30 a.m. with a short inauguration. The parish priest, Fr. James Dsouza, along with YCS animator Mr. Mark Pereira, planted the first sapling in the soil, officially marking the beginning of the Vana Mahotsava activity.

Following this, Fr. James Dsouza addressed the YCS members with a few inspiring words, emphasizing the importance of protecting nature and staying united as youth in action.

After the inauguration, the YCS members of Ferar Parish, Mangalore Diocese, planted around 150 saplings of different varieties across the church yard. The activity was guided and supported by a few nature-loving volunteers, and all members actively participated with enthusiasm.

The drive was not just about planting trees—it was a day filled with teamwork, joy, and a shared sense of responsibility towards Mother Earth. Everyone felt proud to contribute to a greener tomorrow.

The event concluded with a simple lunch, bringing the team together to end the day on a fulfilling note.

This activity proudly stands as one of the action steps taken by the YCS unit of Ferar Parish, Mangalore Diocese, under the spirit and guidance of the RSLTP movement.

YCS Farla Unit Celebrates Silver Jubilee with "YUVOTSAV 2K25"

The YCS Unit of Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Farla, joyfully celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 26th April 2025 with the grand event "YUVOTSAV 2K25."

The day began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, YCS Director of the Mangalore Diocese. Following the Mass, the Jubilee programme was inaugurated with the unveiling of the event logo by Rev. Fr. Roshan D'Cunha. In his inaugural address, he emphasized that youth is the golden age of life and encouraged everyone to utilize their talents and energy for the betterment of themselves and society.

A special moment of mourning was observed for the late Pope Francis, offering prayers for his soul and remembering his contributions to the Church and the youth.

A felicitation ceremony was held to honor Ms. Sabitha Monis, an inspiring achiever despite her physical challenges, and Mr. Leswin Sequeira, Yuvatare Editor of YCS Mangalore Diocese and a proud member of the Farla Unit, for their dedication and contributions to YCS.

Former animators Mrs. Judith Pais and Mrs. Zita Menezes, along with current animators Mrs. Sunitha Baptist and Ms. Josna Vas, were also honored for their committed service to the movement.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Mark D'Souza, in his presidential address, appreciated the selfless service rendered by YCS in the parish. Mr. Anson Nazareth, National YCS President, spoke passionately about Pope Francis’s vision for the youth, highlighting the importance of bringing young minds closer to the Church and society.

Ms. Sabitha Monis shared her inspiring life story, motivating the youth to overcome obstacles with determination and hope. A well-organized documentary showcasing the 25-year journey of YCS Farla was presented, followed by a vibrant cultural dance performance by the Unit members.

Adding to the festivities, a Konkani comedy film titled "Lucky Draw 777," produced and directed by Mr. Rayan Magneto, was screened, entertaining and bringing smiles to all present.

The event witnessed the presence of PPC Vice President Mr. Naveen Menezes, PPC Secretary Mrs. Hilda Pereira, All Commissions Coordinator Mrs. Sunitha Rodrigues, National YCS President Mr. Anson Nazareth, Diocesan YCS President Mr. Deyon Saldanha, and Unit President Ms. Ashlyn Lasrado, who graced the occasion on the dais.

Ms. Renita Monteiro presented the YCS Annual Report of the 2024-25 academic year, highlighting the various activities and achievements of the Unit throughout the year.

The programme was gracefully compered by Ms. Adline Vas. Unit President Ms. Ashlyn Lasrado welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Eva D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

A special highlight of the event was the "YUVOTSAV 2K25" title track, composed by Mr. Leswin Sequeira and written by Mrs. Sunitha Baptist. A flash mob performance based on the title track was also presented on 19th April, after the Easter Vigil Mass, creating excitement and anticipation for the event.

The memorable celebration concluded with the singing of the YCS Anthem, filling the hearts of all with joy and pride.

CHILIPILI SEASON 1 - cultural fest

CHILIPILI SEASON 1: A Celebration of Talent and Joy

The Young Catholic Students (YCS) of Mangalore Diocese, in collaboration with St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Campus, Mangalore, organized CHILIPILI SEASON 1 on 1st December 2024.

The day began with Holy Mass at 8:00 am at St. Aloysius Chapel. Around 9:00 am, the inaugural program was presided over by Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangalore. The Chief Guest for the event was Sri Ivan D'Souza, Member of the Legislative Council, Government of Karnataka. Guests of Honour included Fr. Lourd Raj, Secretary of the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission; Fr. Ashwin Cardoza, Secretary of the Youth Commission, Mangalore; Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Director of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; Ms. Janet Pinto, Co-ordinator of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; Mr. Ruben D'Souza, Animator of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; the PROs of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) College, Ms. Shilpa and Ms. Shanti; and Mr. Deyon Saldanha, President of YCS Mangalore Diocese, who were all present on the dais.

CHILIPILI SEASON 1 was a grand celebration of creativity and joy. The event brought together performers and audiences in a vibrant atmosphere, with the stage coming alive with music, dance, and colorful performances. The energy of the participants was infectious, and each act showcased talent, passion, and dedication. The audience responded with cheers and applause, which made the event even more special.

The teams for the variety competition came from six deaneries of the Mangalore Diocese, and for the Battle of Bands, there were four teams from the Diocese. Workshops and activities added to the excitement, with YCS members expressing their creativity and enthusiasm throughout the day.

The Diocesan Executive Council performed a flash mob, adding a fun and lively element to the event.

The Valedictory Program was presided over by Rev. Fr. Melwin J. Pinto SJ, Rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, Mangalore. The Chief Guest was Mr. Vishwas Rebimbus. The Guests of Honour included Mr. Anson Nazareth, National President of YCS/YSM India; Mr. Richard Alvares; Fr. Roshan D'Cunha, Director of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; Ms. Janet Pinto, Co-ordinator of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; Mr. Ruben D'Souza, Animator of YCS/YSM Mangalore Diocese; PROs of St. Aloysius (Deemed to be University) College, Ms. Shilpa and Ms. Shanti; and Mr. Deyon Saldanha, President of YCS Mangalore Diocese. These dignitaries accompanied the guests on the dais. The winners of various events were felicitated by the dignitaries.

In the Reel Making Competition, the first place was secured by Team Bela, the second place by Team Permannur, and the third place by Team AGG.

In the Variety Competition, the first place went to Episcopal City Deanery, while the second place was awarded to City Deanery.

In the Battle of Bands, the first place was won by Team Rhythmic Heaven, and the second place was taken by Team Crescendo.

The event created memories that will last a lifetime. It celebrated not just talent but also unity and joy. CHILIPILI SEASON 1 was truly an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. 

YCS/YSM MANGALORE DIOCESE WEBSITE LAUNCH

The launch of the YCS/YSM website of the Mangalore diocese took place at the Bishop's House on 17th August 2024 at 4:00 PM. The event was presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha the bishop of Mangalore diocese. The event commenced with a prayer service led by the YCS/YSM central council members followed by a warm welcome by the Mangalore Diocese President Mr. Deyon.The Bishop, in his capacity as the event president, delivered an inspiring talk highlighting the importance of our youth and the movement. The YCS/YSM regional coordinator, Briston Rodrigues who played a pivotal role in the creation of the website, was felicitated for his dedicated efforts. The Mangalore Diocese Secretary Ms. Riyona delivered the vote of thanks. The ceremony was compered by Vice President of the Mangalore Diocese Ms. Blanola.The launch event concluded on a positive note, with everyone looking forward to the potential and opportunities that the new YCS/YSM website would bring to the movement.

Varun Deyon Saldanha, the new Diocesan President of YCS from St Joseph’s the worker Church, Vamanjoor, along with other Office bearers took charge during the Diocesan Annual General Body Meeting held on July 7, 2024 at Urwa Church Hall, Mangalore.

The ceremony was presided over and inaugurated by Rev Fr Benjamine Pinto, Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church Urwa and Advocate  Roshan Lobo, Secretary General IYCS. Mr Roshan Lobo, Vamanjoor Was felicitated by Fr Benjamine Pinto for being elected as the Secretary General of IYCS. A session was taken on the topic Social Media : Empowering Minds and Distracting Dreams? by Mr Jeevan Lobo, MSW (HR) Recruitment Associate at ATKINSREALIS , Bangalore and Social media branding specialist for corporate. Holy Eucharist was celebrated Fr Alwyn Dsouza, Director, Family Life Service, Mangalore. The concluding program was held at 2:15 PM. The Guests of the day were Rev Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director Father Muller’s Charitable Institutions.  

Mr Briston Mario Rodrigues, Cordel The Regional Coordinator, was felicitated by Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho along with the guests on the dais for the service rendered towards YCS/YSM. Mr. Briston Rodrigues shared his experience in the moment.

The outgoing Executive Committee conducted the programme. Liora Lobo and Vilona D’Cunha shared their experiences on behalf of all the Council Members. Ranil D’souza, Fajir welcomed the gathering. Fr Roshan D’Cunha , Director YCS Mangalore Diocese, proposed the vote of thanks. Rosita D’souza, Cordel, presented the Annual Report.

Shainel D’Souza had compared the program.  The Election Commissioner of the year, Fr Antony Clany D’Souza conducted the handing over ceremony and the Diocesan Director, Fr Roshan D’Cunha led the oath-taking ceremony.
The outgoing YCS Diocesan Executive Committee were felicitated with Certificates. Fr Benjamine Pinto, the Parish Priest, Immaculate Conception Church Urwa, along the guest in the dais released the YCS Annual Magazine ‘Yuvatare’. The program was organized by the team consisting of Diocesan Animator Mr Ruben Dsouza, Bajpe, and the Diocesan Co-ordinator Mrs. Janet Pinto, Gurpur along with the DEXCO team. The event concluded with YCS/YSM Anthem.
