Volunteer for YAI

We are looking for active volunteers all the time. Volunteering let you have a sense of community belonging and giving back to society!

We are looking for volunteers to translate episodes of Curiosity-our flagship science show. Volunteering with translation will also be acknowledged in the form of YAI Indian Language SciComm Awards and YAI Associateship, depending on the extent of contributions.

To volunteer, simply add your name in this sheet and coordinate with the group leader. Make sure to add your contact details and language preferences. Curiosity by default is released in English and no volunteering opportunities exist in English.

Curiosity Translation Checklist

  1. There will be one group leader. The group leader should ensure proper orchestration- section-wise allotment to ensure no silence in the show.

  2. The group leader should also have a contingency plan, in case someone gets disconnected. She/he can take over and continue the show.

  3. Translations should be original. Do not plagiarize regional language sci-comm websites!

  4. A heuristic for translation is to use google translator for the first draft; which can be subsequently revised.

  5. You are welcome to add more stories, especially stories pertinent to the region; for example grant call by West bBngal Council for S&T, Tamil Nadu etc. Or later science-related stories from the concerned region.

  6. The show should begin with title slide in regional language. 30 Seconds after the show goes live, Stop sharing the slide show and all presenters should briefly introduce themselves (enable video at this phase). After introductions, slide show resumes.

  7. Once the episode completes, everyone picks up two of the most interesting stories discussed in that episode and why the story is interesting to them. This is like an open discussion/interaction.
