Young Academy of India was founded by Dr. Felix Bast, a Professor at Central University of Punjab in 2020. Set against the COVID-19 pandemic, the academy was born after a hugely successful Science Leadership Workshop, which attracted over 15,000 delegates. The academy is fully virtual and has no physical office and budget.
India has many academies for sciences (INSA, IASc and NASI), and a few for social sciences. However, we do not have a single academy open to all knowledge spheres. Young Academy of India envisions fostering the cross-talk between sciences, humanities and arts. YAI strive to be a democratic space for the free exchange of ideas. Trans-disciplinary knowledge exchange as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP2020) of the Union Govt. of India is upheld through our YAI.
