The NC Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program (AgWRAP) helps local farmers to install best management practices that address water supply difficulties. Examples include water supply wells for irrigation or chicken houses and sediment removal from agricultural ponds. This program is for agricultural purposes.

Purpose
The AgWRAP seeks to identify opportunities to increase water use efficiency, availability, and storage; and to help implement best management practices to conserve and protect water resources.

Eligibility
Landowners/renters must have an existing agricultural operation that has been established for more than one year and must be a bona fide farm as determined by N.C.G.S. § 160D-903. As per state statute, the following items are acceptable documentation for eligibility:
(1) A farm sales tax exemption certificate issued by the Department of Revenue, or

(1) A farm sales tax exemption certificate issued by the Department of Revenue, or
(2) A copy of the property tax listing showing that the property is eligible for participation in the present use value program pursuant to G.S. 105-277.3, or
(3) A copy of the farm owner’s or operator’s Schedule F from the owner’s or operator’s most recent federal income tax return, or
(4) A forest management plan.

Process
District staff will work with the applicant to develop conservation plans, identify best management practices best suited for the issues, and design best management practices to help ensure their longevity. We will facilitate the contract process, from the initial gathering of information to the final request for payment after contract completion.
