When I applied to Wake Forest in the fall of 2014, one of the supplemental questions on the application was “Give us your top 10 list.” I answered this brief, open-ended question by listing 10 things that make me happy. I hoped that these responses would shed light on my identity in a way that my answers to the other generic essays prompts could not.
Now, as I prepare to graduate Wake Forest, I am willing to put forth another top 10 list-this time, though, comprised of essays that I believe effectively shed light on my identity. Over the past 4 years, I have written for a wide variety of academic and personal purposes. I have chosen the following 10 pieces of writing that I believe best highlight my intellectual, physical, and personal development throughout this time period, and how that has shaped my current identity as a writer. As I have progressed as I writer, I believe that I have learned how to conform to discursive expectations while at the same time using writing as a way to showcase small nuggets of my personality.
