OHIO Chillicothe Celebrating 80 Years on Sept. 17

Ohio University Chillicothe will celebrate its 80th anniversary with an open house event Thursday, Sept. 17.

The event will take place at OUC's Stevenson Center, located at 101 University Drive in Chillicothe, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Alumni and community members are invited to network, socialize, and enjoy music from the Chillicothe High School Marching Band.

Annual Chillicothe Oktoberfest Features Activities for All Ages

Downtown Chillicothe's annual Oktoberfest celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 19 on E. 2nd Street.

There will be activities for all ages to enjoy - including face painting and hair braiding for the kids, Weiner Dog Races on the Majestic Courtyard at 5 p.m., contests and plenty more activities.

Admission is $5 per person or $3 if you wear German attire. Proceeds help support the beautification of the downtown area by providing new flowers and Christmas lights. Visit DowntownChillicothe.com to learn more.

Learn About Genealogy and Family Lineage Research at OUC Sept. 25

Learn all about Genealogy during a special workshop at Ohio University Chillicothe on Friday, Sept. 25.

The two-part class begins at 9 a.m. with part one discussing how to overcome family roadblocks when researching family lineage. Part two begins at 12:30 p.m. discussing Native American and First Nation peoples.

Treasures and Unique Finds Await at Chillicothe Trade Days Oct. 2-4

The fall edition of Chillicothe Trade Days returns to the Ross County Fairgrounds Oct. 2-4.

The three-day event is a old-school swap-meet/flea market style event with hundreds of vendors selling everything from antiques and livestock to firearms and crafts. Concessions will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend. 

Trade Days will be open Friday, Oct. 2 for early bird shoppers starting at 3 p.m., then Saturday, Oct. 3 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 4 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

OUC Student Resource Center Hosting Donation Drive Sept. 29

Ohio University Chillicothe is hosting a donation drive to restock its Student Resource Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The community is invited to donate gently-used items such as clothing, household items, and electronics. These items may be dropped off at 101 University Drive in Chillicothe between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

OUC's Student Resource Center offers non-perishable food items, school supplies, casual and professional attire, and personal hygiene items to any student or staff member in need. Remaining items will be sent to Goodwill of South Central Ohio. 

Majestic Theatre Hosting Several Tribute Acts this Fall

The majestic Theatre in Chillicothe will host several live classic rock tribute bands throughout September and October.

Chillicothe Halloween Festival Returns Oct. 9-11

The annual Chillicothe Halloween Festival returns to Yoctangee Park in Downtown Chillicothe Oct. 9-11. 

The festival opens Friday, Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. with pumpkin carving happening in the Rotary Shelter House from 2 to 5 p.m. The Kids Zone will open that afternoon at 4 p.m. followed by the opening ceremony at 5 p.m. and live music throughout the evening.

Saturday, Oct. 10 features the Zombie Run 5K at 10 a.m.; a car show and cruise-in at the Armory at Noon; a costume contest at 2 p.m.; Trunk or Treat at 4 p.m.; and more live music throughout the day.

Sunday, Oct. 11 wraps-up the weekend with the Pumpkin Drop Contest at Noon; Coffin Races at 2 p.m.; and live music at 1 and 3 p.m. before the festival concludes at 5 p.m.

Monthly 'Free Market' Helps Ross County Residents in Need

First Capital PRIDE hosts a monthly Free Market at the Ross County Library the third Saturday of each month.

Markets are set-up similar to a thrift store, but all the items are available at no cost. This can include shelf-stable and perishable food items, clothing, shoes and work boots, hygiene items, books, games, and more. 

The markets take place in the main library annex at 140 S. Paint Street in Chillicothe. Those wishing to donate to the market can drop items off the day of the market anytime after 10 a.m. Markets are open for shopping from Noon to 3 p.m.
