Whenever someone so much as touches the Darkhold, it then has the capability to teach into their mind and corrupt them. The more a person uses the Darkhold, the more its influence infects the person.
One way the Darkhold is able to manipulate a person is by appearing to them in a human form. This form shifts and changes to its will. It can even go so far as to mimic the user's loved ones in an attempt to convince them that the magic within the Darkhold is something they need. They are manipulative and will do anything they deem necessary to convince someone to use their magic.
After all, once someone has used the Darkhold, not only does that person have the magic within it, but it also has their magic as well. From the moment the magic within is used, it will forever have a hold on the person that has used it. And it does not let its users go easily.
