Front and Back parts are mixed up.
Thats not a big issue and its self corrected after the next turn.
A right click on it corrects it too.
Different Screen resolutions result in different looks of the text Hud.
Resize the Compass
In laggy conditions it may happen, parts of the compass not showing right away. Its an SL thing. That happens to other Huds too.
Try one of this:
Wait or turn around a little
Right click on Compass
Switch it Off / On
Try the shortcut ctrl-shift-R twice. (For this to work, Developer Menu must be active (ctrl-alt-Q)
Detach / Attach the Compass
WindCompass uses the attachement point "HUD Center". Dont worry if that spot is already taken.
Right click the compass in inventory and select "ADD"
Your other Hud and Compass are now sharing the same spot.
For Center 2 you need new position and rotation data. Follow these steps:
Attach the Compass to Center 2
Right click, edit it
Go to tab "Object"
Copy this position data: <0.00000, -0.15514, 0.40935> and paste at Position block (press the lower "P" button)
Copy this rotation data: <0.00000, 270.00000, 0.00000> and paste at Rotation block (press the lower "P" button)
Now move it, where you want it to.
(I recommend to "ADD" the Compass to the HUD Center as described above.)
Try one or some of this:
Use short names for the USB notecards.
Edit the USB notecard to shorten the long lines in question. (Video Tutorial)
Resize the Compass (watch Video Tutorial)
Note: Since version 4.4 the text will be truncated.
Don't worry.
Go to Options > Channel, enter btn
Yes.
Click them.
Check, if Racemode is OFF
Check, if Gestures Mode is OFF
Note: The Winddirection and Windspeed buttons are disabled in Race- or Gesture Mode.
A Race-ID will be added to the boat name.
The Boat starts and KEEPS listening for Racewind!
So, no need to type "cruising" ... "racing" over and over!
TIP: WindCompass can do this for you! Have Smart Mode activated.
As soon the racewind is broadcasting, Boat and WindCompass picks that up.
Make sure, a windsetter buoy or a Race Director is in shoutrange and broadcasting racewind.
Use a boat with supported windsystem (BOSS or BWind).
Have Smart Mode activated. Toggle "Racemode" Off and back On.
Note: WWC-wind boats (e.g. Trudeau, Fizz, Nemo) are not supported in this version.
If you use a WWC boat, set Cruisewind manually in Compass.
Make sure, a windsetter buoy or a Race Director is in shout range and broadcasting racewind.
Click "Send Wind" to get the boat to aquire Racewind again.
Click Racemode button Off and back On.
Toggle Racemode button Off and On.
Note: Before each race make sure, Compass and boat get the same and correct racewind.
If not racing, turn this function off. Tip: Smart Mode does that for you.
This can happen, because of Grid Disconnects and grey screen Quits occurring since March 2019.
Or you clicked the Download button during race.
By default there is a "Warn Me" message, before dropping Racewind, to prevent loosing Racewind by accident.
If you're in a race...
Sit in boat, check, if your boat still has Racewind (green Racewind text above Compass).
If yes, activate Smart Mode, (Click the "T" of the Word "Smart")
Smart Mode gets the boats racewind
Tip: Leave Smart Mode activated.
No. Variations are randomly processed within the boat script. The Compass can't read those scripts.
Compass provides the general AWA and the rest is on skippers skill! ;o)
You probably changed the boatname to something personal.
In order this Function to work, make sure the boat name begins with the original name!
Add your personal boatname to the original name. e.g.: "Bandit IF - My boatname".
You probably use a Volvo 70 or some other BWind boat.
These boats listen to chat commands from owner only and not from Huds.
So, WindCompass send functions have no effect.
Workaround:
Use your chat commands or wind gestures for your boat (a free gesture set is provided)
Make the WindCompass listen to them too. Activate "Gestures".
(You may have to enter the boat channel number in Compass too: Options > Channel)

Since Version 4.3 there is practically no limit, this means the usual SL limits for prim contents apply.
I stopped a loading test after 2000+ loaded notecards (version 4.3 beta).
Yes.
Click the X icon on NAV Hud to open the Delete Dialog.
Select "Delete All"
After a confirmation dialog, all notecards will be deleted from Compass.
Yes. Do this:
Do NOT detach the Compass yet!
In inventory create a copy of the current worn Compass (This one still contains all notecards).
Now detach the Compass.
Wear that just created copy.
All notecards are back!
Around 120 -190 waypoints depending on Lag.
This probably happen on attempt to load a very long waypoint list or a wrong notecard.
Try the following:
Wait a little. If the route is still not loaded after 59 seconds, the loading will be canceled.
Switch NAV Off / On to cancel the loading.
Make sure to load a correct USB notecard.
To prevent the map from opening, when advancing to next waypoint, RLV must be activated.
You need an RLV capable viewer (e.g. Firestorm).
In Firestorm go to Preferences > Firestorm > Extras > Enable "Allow Remote Scripted Viewer Controls (RLVa)"
Also check in the NAV-Settings if the option "Map" is set to Off.
Use a RLV capable viewer (e.g. Firestorm).
Check the following settings in Firestorm:
Preferences > Firestorm > Extras > "Allow Remote Scripted Viewer Controls (RLVa)" > set to ON
Preferences > Firestorm > Protection > "Allow scripts to show map UI (llMapDestination)" > set to ON
I always have to click the sky or the water to regain control!
This happens on mark advance when the map opens and the map takes the focus.

Make sure Auto Advance is active. Go to Options > NAV > Advance.
You must be within range to the mark, to trigger the Auto Advance. The Default is 50 meter.
You can set this Range in Options > NAV > Range.
Also take into account, Lag can impact script timing, so it can happen on simcross/lag/many boats, a waypoint is not shown in time.
Tip: Never rely on USB route only. Always keep a routemap handy and memorize its layout, to be prepared best.
Use short names for the USB notecards.
Edit the USB notecard to shorten the long lines in question. (Video Tutorial)

Some words about Avatar script load...
In general, wear as less scripts/huds possible and as much as needed, same goes for the passengers / crew.
Often it happens Skipper falls off the boat after simcross or similar effects occur.
Reason:
On simcrossing the server transfers the boat and avatar(s) separately to the next sim and puts them together after crossing.
A light scripted avatar arrives earlier than a heavy scripted boat in the next sim and vice versa.
The next sim waits for the "heavier" one to arrive, but if it takes to long, a timeout occurs and boat and avatar arrive separated in the next sim or crash.
Where to look?
In Firestorm, go to Menu Avatar > Avatar Health > Scripts.
All worn avatar scripts and the boat script are listed.
Check that list for script count. If you sit on boat and its not listed yet, sail to the next sim and refresh that list.
What to do?
Align the avatar script load to the boat script load.
Detach uneeded Huds, attachements, genitals or use an unscripted copy.
Example:
Bandit IF ~650 kB vs. Skipper 200kB = unbalanced
Bandit IF ~650 kB vs. Skipper 300kB + Crew 300kB = well balanced
Since the simcrosses improved with the new server roll outs 8/2020 we are experience script error messages like that:
The boat sends a script error: "llStopAnimation: Script trying to stop animations but agent not found"
This why it happens:
On simcross, the avatar gets separated from boat/vehicle and both will be sent to the new region separately.
After simcross they will be reunited again. Normally you don't notice that.
This script error happens, when they still in status not reunited. (so the script is a bit faster than the simcross reunite procedure)
What to do?
You can ignore that message.
If this message still bothers you, you can disable it in Firestorm:
In Firestorm go to Preferences > Notifications > Objects & Scrips... uncheck: "Report Script Errors"
This might be a temporary workaround, because it turns all script messages off!
Firestorm offers a Quick Preference Window, where you can add a checkbox for this:
- Go to Quick Prefs (you might add a toolbar button, if not visible)
- in Quick Preference window go to Configure mode
- press "+" to add a control, rename it to something descriptive like "Show Script Errors"
- choose debug setting from drop down list "ShowScriptErrors"
- select Type of control button "Checkbox" or "Radio"
- press X to save that
Now you can turn On/Off the script warnings quickly.
For more info read: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_quick_preferences
Hopefully the Labs get a fix very soon.
Since the simcrosses improved with the new server roll outs 8/2020 we are experience script error messages like that:
The boat sends a script error: "Camera control currently only supported for attachments and objects on which you are sitting."
What happens to my boat?
This error has some weird side effects. The skipper is stuck in animation or sitting up above the seat.
The boat is still working! Just the sitting looks odd.
What to do?
A re-sit often helps, but if you're in a race... re-sit is a bad idea..., keep going and re-sit after race.
Tip: Uggo Vieria created a workaround for it. Replace the AVsit scripts in your boat (boat has to be modify).
Find the script here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/AVsitter-129-fix-for-vehicles/20869617.
Hopefully the Labs get a fix very soon.
If you use Firestorm, go to Preferences > Notifications > Objects & Scripts > Report Script Errors in: > check "Nearby Chat"
If you use a different Viewer, try to find a similar option there.
This happens because of Grid Disconnects and grey screen Quits occurring since March 2019.
To prevent this from happen, make your settings as usual. Then DETACH and RE-ATTACH the Compass.
Note: Detaching saves Hud settings.
If you're in a race...
- Sit in boat, check, if your boat still has Racewind (green Racewind text above Compass).
- If yes, activate Smart Mode, (Click the "T" of the Word "Smart")
- Compass gets the boats racewind
Tip: Leave Smart Mode activated.
By Default this function is turned Off.
To enable it, go to Options > Channel, enter sc (Standing Cam)
Yes.
Go to Options > Channel > Enter cam
(This also stops the listener for its chat command.)
Move your avatar a little, the spinning stops.
After detaching Gesture-Sets, Compass or Huds, i lost my hair and other parts!
This may happen after bumpy region crossings.
Don't detach anything, just RE-WEAR your current OUTFIT.
In rare cases after simcross it may happen, the compass freezes up.
Try this:
In Firestorm, go to Menu Avatar > Avatar Health > Refresh Attachments
Detach and Re-Attach the Compass.
Note: This might reset the Compass to its defaults!
Those BWind boats listen to chat commands from owner only and not from Huds!
So, WindCompass send functions have no effect.
Workaround:
Use your chat commands or WindGestures for the boat and make the WindCompass listen to them too!
Activate "Gestures"! Also see Video Tutorials.
Those boats use a different windsystem called WWC (wind, waves and currents). The WindCompass supports Boss and BWind systems only. You can use WindCompass with WWC boats as well. Just set the winds on boat and Compass separately and select a BWind template in Boats.
The red "No Go" zone is based on the AWA (Apparent Wind Angle) and is variable depending on the boatspeed.
Example:
You're going for a bicycle ride and get ready to start. A light breeze comes from the side.
That light breeze is the "True Wind" and comes from an angle which is called "True Wind Angle" (TWA).
Now you start cycling and increase speed...
That light breeze from before changed to a stronger headwind. Now that "wind" apparently comes from front. Its called "Apparent Wind" and the angle where it comes from is called Apparent Wind Angle (AWA). This wind is created by your own speed.
So, the faster you go, the more the wind seems to come from front. Thats why the AWA is variable and the red "No Go" zone keeps moving.
You can turn off the Timer. This will stop Listen for Startsignals and reduces a little contribution to Lag.
The abbreviation "HUD" comes from military aviation and stands for "Head Up Display".
This means that the flight instruments were projected onto a glass plate in the field of vision of the pilot.
He no longer had to look down at the instruments, so he could keep his head "up".
