ONE MAN'S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN'S 50% OFF SALE
Today while out investigating an active shooter situation at 180 Stab City, the complete and unexpected happened. A marked Blaine County Sheriff’s Office 2018 Charger came barreling down the road at excess of 100 MPH full lights and sirens slammed into our parked 2025 Durango. After slamming our vehicle off the road, what did he proceed to do? CONTINUE TO HIS VEHICLE PURSUIT! This came to a shock to me and Andrew, my camera man as we witnessed thousands of dollars of gear potentially damaged, and the Sheriff’s Office acting like nothing happened.
Upon realization of this, we ran towards the vehicle as he continued to speed away. Once we realized there was no use in running towards him, we decided to speak to the deputy on scene and Sandy Shores officer. The Sandy Shores officer was unable to provide any details to us on who that person was, and was unable to comment. A Sheriff’s supervisor was requested at this time, little did we know, nobody would come to our aide.
While waiting for our supervisor, however, a member of the investigations division of the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office did show up in relation to a GSR test. According to this unnamed deputy, that had nothing to do with our situation as a GSR test was a Gunshot Residue Test. However, he made some pretty bold statements to us.
It would be an additional 20 minutes from this point before a supervisor would come to our aide. However, this is before the unexpected happens. Additional shots would be heard down the road. Myself and Andrew would go running down the road where deputies would bark orders at the media team, and place myself into cuffs. And before you ask, YES, the Blaine County Sheriff’s deputy who was supposed to get me a supervisor to investigate a MVA hit and run involving a Sheriff’s vehicle was putting me into cuffs.
“There is heavy corruption in the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office. They feel that they are above the law.” - Unnamed Investigator
“There are bad apples in the Sheriff’s Office. More bad apples than good unfortunately.” - Unnamed Investigator
“You're being placed into cuffs for your own safety” -Unnamed Deputy
With no legal penal code backing, this was a clear overreach of the Sheriff’s Office power. Over fear of our freedom, we decided to put the cameras down while this was cleared. We later were able to get further clarification.
A Blaine County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant was later able to provide further clarification to us about the Sheriff’s vehicle that slammed into us and left.
However, when further asked who would investigate this, they claimed it to be themselves. Could they really trust their investigation with the clear corruption and favoritism within this department? When asked about this, we only got one clear message.
Can you trust those at the Blaine County Sheriff's Office to protect us in the county? Probably not. We will be further investigating this.
“We at the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office enforce the laws equally and are not above the law. We will be investigating this internally. I can provide you with the appropriate forms to file.” -Unnamed Sergeant
“No further comments.” -Unnamed Sergeant
