LANGUAGE ARTS: Students will be extending their learning about inferences in preparation for our upcoming unit on Context Clues.
MATH: Next week, we will continue with our first fractions unit! Students will begin learning about the parts of a fraction and how to find equivalent fractions. As we continue this new unit please remember it is crucial students know their multiplication facts. We are practicing these in class, and it would be beneficial for students to practice their multiplication facts at home each night.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Students will wrap up learning about the different regions of CA and work on a benchmark project, and then will start their first science unit, on Animal Adaptations for Survival.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING: Our Core Value for the month of September is Respect, so we will also focus on this topic during our Morning Meetings.
BENCHMARK ASSESSMENTS AND RETAKES: Assessments are tentatively scheduled but may change depending on student progress.
CA Regions Benchmark: Continue during the week of September 11
Reading For Details Benchmark RETAKE: Tuesday, September 9
Context Clues Benchmark: Monday, September 22
A TOUCH OF UNDERSTANDING:
On Wednesday, September 23rd, we will have our on-site field lesson, A Touch of Understanding, which provides disability awareness programs designed to educate a new generation to understand the challenges associated with disabilities and to accept and respect all individuals. This is a great experience that fourth graders get to participate in, and it’s all on campus! Here’s their website if you want to learn more! Your donations help make these field lessons possible! Please check out the donation page if you have not already.
NO TOYS/EQUIPMENT FROM HOME:
Please remind students that they are not allowed to bring toys or sports equipment from home. This is a school-wide policy. Thank you for your support with this!
OLYMPIC TRIATHLON:
The 19th Annual Olympic Triathlon, our one big fundraising campaign each year, is in full swing! CLICK HERE to set up your family donation page on the PledgeStar website. You can customize it with your student’s name, a photo, and a donation goal. It is easy to quickly request sponsors via email or text, explaining why Westlake is amazing and how they can help us meet our goal this year. The more students who hit the $150 goal, the bigger the celebration for our school community!
