A huge thank you to all the families who have purchased items from our Amazon Classroom Wishlist! Your generosity and support mean so much to us. Every item helps make our classroom a more welcoming, engaging, and well-equipped place for our explorers to learn and grow. We are incredibly grateful to have such an AMAZing classroom community! 🧡
Please check your child’s Friday Folder for completed and graded math work. This week, we have been learning about factors, multiples, and prime and composite numbers. These concepts can be tricky at first, so please visit the Parent Resources page for helpful videos explaining what they mean. Students are also welcome to watch the videos for additional practice and support at home. Thank you for being a partner in your child’s learning!
Wednesday, August 26th
Back to School Night is an opportunity for families to learn more about our classroom, curriculum, expectations, routines, and what to expect during your child's 4th-grade year.
To help create a distraction-free environment where teachers and families can connect, Westlake is encouraging families to make this a non-student event whenever possible.
Kindergarten–5th Grade Sessions:
⭐ Session 1: 6:00–6:30 PM
⭐ Session 2: 6:40–7:10 PM
The sessions are identical, so families only need to attend one.
Need childcare in order to attend? The BASE program will offer supervision, but space may be limited. Families who need childcare should complete the BASE RSVP form as soon as possible.
A quick reminder that Friday Folders should be returned to school every Monday morning so they can be ready for the next week's important papers and student work.
Thank you for helping our explorers start the week prepared and ready to learn!
Fall Picture Day: K-8 picture day will be on Tuesday, September 1st. This is a uniform picture day for our K-8 campus. All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook and student IDs, even if they don’t purchase a picture package. CLICK HERE to pre-purchase your pictures online. Group pictures will be taken for Kindergarten through 5th grade classes only.
Free and Reduced Priced Meals: Good news! This year, we qualify to complete the SHORT form for Free and Reduced Priced Meals (FRPM). Each year it is incredibly important to our school that we are able to account for every student during this form collection process. We are authorized by the Natomas Unified School District and as a part of our partnership, we commit to collecting these forms from every family. This quick form plays an important role in determining how much funding our schools receive. Every completed form helps ensure Natomas Unified receives the full funding our students deserve. When forms are not submitted, schools can miss out on valuable resources. Even if you believe your family may not qualify, your response still makes a difference. CLICK HERE to complete the 2026-2027 Educational Benefit Form.
Learning Lab: The Learning Lab is now open to Middle School Explorers after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:15 - 3:45 PM. The Learning Lab is staffed by an Instructional Aide to assist Middle School students with their classwork and homework. Families should sign up their Middle School student(s) using School Dismissal Manager.
Jibe Walk and Bike to School Program: The Jibe Walk and Bike to School Program is back! Students earn prizes and rewards for walking, biking, or scooting to school while parents skip the drop-off line and gain peace of mind knowing they will be notified when their student is scanned in at the school’s entrance. If your student already has a card, they can simply find an adult in an orange apron when arriving on campus to get scanned in. Need a card? Please CLICK HERE to register.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
No Toys/Equipment From Home: Please remind students that they are not allowed to bring toys or sports equipment from home. This is a school-wide policy. Thank you for your support with this!
School Dismissal Manager: We appreciate your efforts to keep Dismissal Manager updated with your child’s dismissal instructions. This ensures that everyone gets where they need to go quickly and safely. Please note, we cannot allow students to leave campus without a parent unless they are specified as “Independent Walkers” in Dismissal Manager.

Next week we will be finishing Unit 1 in Fundations which is an introduction to 4th grade phonics.

Next week, we will finish our unit on Factors and Multiples. Students will review the skill of finding the area of a rectangle. They will also identify the relationships between factors in fact families. This is a review unit and there will not be an assessment for this unit. It is extremely important that students know their multiplication facts. We are practicing these in class, and it would be beneficial for students to practice their multiplication facts at home.

Next week, students will continue learning about the different regions of California.
Social Emotional Learning:
Our school started using a program called Character Strong where our class will be participating in social emotional learning lessons as a class every Monday. This week’s focus was kindness. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together to learn and grow as a school and as a classroom.
