What a wonderful Week 4! We are continuing to settle into our routines, build our classroom community, and grow as 4th-grade explorers. I am so proud of the hard work students are putting in each day!
A huge THANK YOU to all of the families who joined us for Back to School Night! It was so nice getting to connect with you, share more about our classroom, and give you a glimpse into what your child’s year in 4th grade will look like. Your support and partnership mean so much! If you were unable to attend, or would simply like to look back at the information we shared, you can view the presentation below:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
NWEA Testing: We will be Monday and Tuesday, August 31st (math), September 1 (ELA). Please have your student well rested, with a full belly, and to school on time. We appreciate your help in making testing possible!
Logins: Students should be able to log in to any of their accounts with their Westlake Google logins or using Clever. This information was sent home at Meet the Teacher. If you need help getting students logged in to anything at home, please email me! I’m happy to help.
No Toys/Equipment From Home: Please remind students that they are not allowed to bring toys or sports equipment from home. This is a school-wide policy. Thank you for your support with this! Fidgets have been allowed if it’s used as a tool, not a toy. If students are not able to use their fidgets appropriately and respectfully, they will be asked to not bring them to class any longer.

September 1: Picture Day (Students wear uniforms)

CLASSROOM CONTENT:
Language Arts: Next week, we wrap up our unit on Explicit Details and Inferences, using both fiction and nonfiction texts. Students will complete a practice test in class on Tuesday, September 2, and they will take the actual benchmark on September 3. In Fundations, we will be learning about Vowel-Consonant-e (v-e) Syllable
Math: Next week, we will be starting Unit 2 which focuses on fraction equivalence and comparison. As we start this new unit, please remember it is crucial that students know their multiplication facts. We are practicing these in class, and it would be beneficial for students to practice their multiplication facts at home each night.
Social Studies: Next week, students will wrap up learning about the different regions of CA and work on a benchmark project, becoming an expert in one of our four regions.
Social Emotional Learning: Next week, we will work on connecting as a class and building relationships. Our Core Value for the month of September is Respect, so we will also focus on this topic during our Morning Meetings.
Reading For Details Benchmark: Wednesday, September 3
CA Regions Benchmark: Starts Thursday, September 4

Fourth Grade families: In the first 30 days of school, we’d like to raise at least 50% of our Field Lessons and School Supplies fundraising goal! Group pictures will be taken for Kindergarten through 5th grade classes only.
FREE AND REDUCED PRICED MEALS:
Good news! This year, we qualify to complete the SHORT form for Free and Reduced Priced Meals (FRPM). Each year it is incredibly important to our school that we are able to account for every student during this form collection process. We are authorized by the Natomas Unified School District and as a part of our partnership, we commit to collecting these forms from every family. This quick form plays an important role in determining how much funding our schools receive. Every completed form helps ensure Natomas Unified receives the full funding our students deserve. When forms are not submitted, schools can miss out on valuable resources. Even if you believe your family may not qualify, your response still makes a difference.
