We are a couple who have been with the organisation for 5 weeks. It has been a wonderful experience. Since before our arrival there was constant communication with the organisation worrying at all times to inform us, help us in the realisation of the visa, time management and collection in Accra. They also helped us with the search for accommodation in Accra.
As for the project, it is a partnership focussed on the education of children and adolescents through sports activities (soccer academy with daily training) and cultural (mainly music, percussion and both traditional and modern dance). It is about linking children and adolescents to school, and attendance at school is a mandatory requirement to be able to participate in the activities. The association gives support to those people who lack economic resources including accommodation and food for between 30 and 50 children. They have a group of women (Girls Club) that takes place every Thursday led by one of the school teachers with the aim of empowering them and reflecting together on the role of women in Ghana and in the global context, in addition to generating a space of security and trust to share doubts and experiences.
Another of the main objectives is the cultural exchange and the introduction to the community of Kwahu Tafo, highlighting their kindness and interest in people from outside.
In our case, because we are doctors, from the association they made it easier for us to participate a few days a week in the Clinic that is located in the town itself, which for us has been a very enriching experience that has made it possible to know the general consultations and make home visits in the mental health department.
As for the place where the project is developed, Kwahu Tafo, is a town in a region with a lot of vegetation and possibilities of making routes in nature. There are many places of interest in the surroundings, including Volta Lake, different waterfalls and caves. From the organisation they worried about accompanying us and organising the guides in their free time. We mention in a special way the care in providing a rich, nutritious and varied diet by introducing us to various traditional dishes.
In conclusion, we highlight this organisation for its seriousness and professionalism, transparency in the management of aid and information on the use and destination of resources, for the humanity and dedication of the professionals, as well as the affection and illusion towards children and volunteers. Add that at all times they promote and encourage volunteers to feel free to propose new activities to implement.
We definitely recommend participating in this project! We hope to be able to return in the future.
