From Irene:
I spent two weeks in Tafo during the month of August, together with my friend Flaminia. Although short, it was a truly enriching and engaging experience.
I felt warmly welcomed by the entire Tafo community: Eric, who was my main point of reference and helped me with everything I needed, M.me Dina, who cooked delicious and traditional dishes every day, the boys from the Football Academy, the children I met and their families.
Every day I went to the Roman Catholic School in Mpraeso, helping with some lessons during the vacation classes and preparing a few sessions on Oral Hygiene and Menstrual Hygiene for the Girls Empowerment Clubs led by M.me Irene in Mpraeso and M.me Mary in Tafo. We shared special moments that I will always carry in my heart — in just a few days, I feel I learned and received so much.
Thanks to WAVO, Rory, Greg, and Eric for making such a precious opportunity for meeting and exchange possible!
From Flaminia:
I spent two weeks in Tafo in August together with my friend Irene, and although the stay was short, it was truly enriching and meaningful.
From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed by the entire community. Eric, the local coordinator, made us feel comfortable and supported at all times, always checking in to be sure we had everything we needed and even taking the time to show us the beauty of the Eastern Region. M.me Dina cooked delicious traditional meals for us every day, and the boys from the Football Academy, along with the local children and their families, made us feel fully part of the community.
Every morning we went to the Roman Catholic School in Mpraeso, managed by Christian. Even though it was summer holidays, there was still plenty to do. We assisted with lessons during the vacation classes and joined several Girls Empowerment Club sessions. Alongside M.me Irene in Mpraeso and M.me Mary in Tafo, we helped facilitate activities on Oral Hygiene and Menstrual Hygiene (and even found ourselves dancing and cooking with the girls!). The work that M.me Irene and M.me Mary do with these girls is truly inspiring and incredibly empowering to witness.
Rory was an excellent remote point of contact and supported us with coordination before, during, and after the trip, which made the entire experience smooth and reassuring.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone here for creating such a precious opportunity for connection, learning, and cultural exchange. I am truly grateful for this experience and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to immerse themselves in meaningful community work in Ghana. Medase :)
