The project titled "Nano PZT-4 for piezoelectric applications" was sponsored by NPOL, DRDO, Govt. of India, with a total outlay of Rs. 8.41 lakhs. The project commenced on 27.03.2006 and completed successfully on 26.09.2007.
PZT-4 is a commercially available piezoelectric composition, classified as “Piezoelectrically Hard”. Transducers fabricated using this powder suffer from poor mechanical characteristics, especially while working under deep-sea conditions. In order to overcome this disadvantage, in this project, nanopowders of piezoelectric material equivalent to PZT-4 was synthesized by us. Piezoceramics fabricated using this nanopowder of PZT-4, exhibited enhanced electromechanical characteristics which was attributed to the fine-grained microstructures.
