The project titled "BSTO Thin films for space communication systems" was sponsored by ISRO, Govt. of India, with a total outlay of Rs. 2.00 lakhs. The project commenced on 17.02.2003 and completed successfully on 16.02.2004.

Ferroelectric thin films based on BaTiO₃ are important in the context of applications in phase-shifters for space communications. Their choice for these applications result from the tunability of their capacitance as a function of an applied DC bias voltage. In this project, (Ba_1-xSr_x)TiO₃ thin films suitable for tunable device applications were successfully developed for Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Thin-films developed were tested and approved by Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre[VSSC], Trivandrum for phase shifter applications.
