Zip Archive
A zip archive can be likened to a Suitcase containing articles. Like a suitcase you pack your articles into the suitcase then have to unload the articles before you can use them.
A zip archive is a compressed folder into which files are placed. This zip archive can be copied to another place taking all the files with it. At the other end if you want to use the files you need to unpack the zip folder if you want to do anything with the files.
Saving files into a zip Archive
In Windows File Explorer (the File Manager) - you can hold the [Windows key] and tap [E] to open it
Add all the files you want to submit into a folder ( use [Ctrl]+[Mouse click] to select the files you want and copy them to the folder).
Make sure your zip folder contains ALL the assets, so for a website this will include the html, css, js files as well as the images and audio files (the video will most likely be from YouTube).
Right Click on the folder you want to compress, and select “Send to.. > Compressed (Zipped) Folder”
Rename the file to something meaningful e.g. dateName-content.zip (20220323Bloggs-CATT503-A1.zip )
Upload the zipped folder to the Dropbox.
Notes
To test your zip file website you must unzip first, as you can’t run your website inside a zip archive (the links don’t work).
Noeocities
If you are using a webhost like Neocities you cannot upload the zip Archive and run the files from this. Files must be uploaded individually and put in their correct folders.
Microsoft Office files
The MS-Office files are actually xml files that have been zipped. The x in files like docx stand for xml.
So, do not save a docx as a zip file as it is already a zip file with a different extension (You can see this if you rename your docx file as .zip and open it :) )
Tip: If you have a very large office file and want to find the cause rename it as a zip file and lok trhrough the foders. The large file will show up.
