How to Join the Irvington Band Programs

In order to successfully join the Irvington Band, Orchestra or Color Guard Programs, please make sure to go through the following steps:



Step 1: Register during Irvington Course Enrollment - Spring

  • When: During IHS Course Enrollment in spring

  • Find the band classes from the catalog and add to your course requests on Infinite Campus Portal

  • Marching Band & Color Guard is scheduled in Period 7

  • Jazz Band is scheduled in Zero Period (marked as Period 10)

  • For Period 1~6, the band programs offered include Symphonic Band, Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.

  • For Wind Ensemble I & II, auditions in spring are required.

  • For Marching Band and Color Guard, your JV/V division will be evaluated and assigned by coaches.


Step 2: Sign Up on EventBrite for All Band/Guard/Orchestra - Summer

  • When: The sign up notice is usually announced in mid June and due by mid July.

  • Eventbrite Signup is a required step for ALL students every year. It is used for compiling rosters by instruments & levels, creating a full contact list for communications with all parents & students, and for collecting annual donations to support the Programs. **It DOES NOT cover or guarantee your course enrollment at IHS; you must verify your course schedule on the Maze Day and on the Infinite Campus Student Portal.

  • The suggested annual donation is $400 which covers the coaches salaries, transportations (buses and trucks), uniform maintenance & dry cleaning, competition entry fees, concert hall rentals, music sheets, food supplies for band review trips, and much more.

  • Whether or not you donate, you MUST SIGN UP on Eventbrite before July 15th.


Step 3: Participate in the Mandatory Band Camp - Summer

  • When: Around the end of July and the beginning of August

  • Who: It is required for all students who have registered for Marching Band and Color Guard, including returning students, incoming Freshmen and students transferring to IHS. Please make sure to save the week for Band Camp when you plan on vacations.

  • Students will learn the very basics and most importantly, get their uniform fitted! If you missed the uniform fitting, please notify Mr Rodda in advance to make arrangements.

  • If you are only taking a Band or Orchestra class without a separate Marching Band or Color Guard class on Period 7, you do NOT need to come to the above camps, but you still need to sign up at EventBrite.


Step 4: Review the Class Schedule on Maze Day

  • When: Maze Day

  • Please verify all the band programs you requested are listed correctly on your schedule, including anything in Period 1~6, Period 7, and/or Period 10.

  • If anything is missing or wrong, please contact your counselor and Mr Rodda immediately to get it fixed.

  • Please make sure to double check your finalized schedule on Infinite Campus Portal.


Step 5: Complete the Dual Enrollment if Eligible

  • For incoming 9th grade, dual enrollment is processed after the school starts.

  • For 10~12th grades, dual enrollment is processed in May and done before Summer.

  • The band programs eligible for Dual Enrollment may change each year. Please refer to the notice from IHS for an updated list and policy.


Step 6: Submit the Field Trip Forms

  • Students must pick up and turn in a set of Field Trip Forms with parents' signatures on all pages, in order to perform at band reviews and concerts.

  • If you have already made the donations on EventBrite or by check, you don't need to donate the bus fees again.

  • If you have not made donations on EventBrite or by check, we suggest that you send a donation check for transportation with the Field Trip Forms.


Step 7: Missed the EventBrite SignUp and/or the Band Camp?

  • If you are a new student transferring to IHS, or a returning student who missed the EventBrite SignUp and/or the Band Camp, please make sure to go through the following steps:

    • Visit the Eventbrite Link and try to register as a regular attendee. The late signup is available online until the Labor Day weekend, so you should try to do it as soon as you are confirmed to join the band programs.

    • Contact the volunteer coordinator at IHSVikingsMusicBoosters@gmail.com to get your contact information added/updated on the Main Roster

    • Contact the uniform coordinator at IHSVikingsMusicBoosters@gmail.com to get your uniform fitted asap

    • Contact the Coaches of Marching Band or Color Guard to get your information updated


Step 8: Stay Connected with your group


Step 9: Verify your Grades/Credits on Transcripts

  • It is rare but unfortunate that your band program grades and/or credits could be missing on the report cards or transcripts.

  • Please make sure to check your records on Infinite Campus Portal at least once in a quarter to identify issues, and contact your counselor and Mr Rodda immediately to get them fixed.

  • Don't wait until your senior year when you realize that you missed the record of an entire year of Marching/Guard that cannot be made up.
