The lesson plan below illustrates one way to use AnkiDroid as a teaching resource.

Course: Kinder 4
Group age and level: 4 years old; beginners.
Topic: Winter clothes.
Time frame: 1 lesson (60 minutes).
Warm up
It is winter already and students have been acquiring vocabulary related to this season. The focus of this lesson is on clothes. Thus, the teacher will introduce the topic by simply asking about the weather in very general terms. For example, the teacher might ask if it is hot during the winter and then if it is cold. It is expected that children will answer “no” to the first question and “yes” to the second question.
Activity 1
Students are presented with images of different clothing items and have to decide whether the different items can be used in winter or not. While doing this activity, the teacher will focus on the names of the items that are used during the winter by saying the name of the item in English and encouraging students to repeat it. Within this lesson, only four items will be introduced: jacket, scarf, hat and gloves.
For this activity the teacher can use AnkiDroid. The cards created by him/her can display an image of a clothing item as the question, with an emoji of a face giving a thumbs up or down as the answer.
After creating the deck of flashcards using the AnkiDroid app on his/her mobile device, the teacher can share his/her screen with an interactive whiteboard or use a tablet.
Below are examples of flashcards created with AnkiDroid.
Plan B: As an alternative, the teacher can print and laminate copies of the images to display during the activity.
Activity 2:
The teacher will present an image of a child wearing shorts and a tank top and he/she will ask the students to help him/her dress the child in the image with winter clothes. The teacher will show the students different clothing items that were previously introduced, and he/she will ask if the child in the image should wear them. If the answer is “yes,” the teacher will add the item to the image to “dress” the child.
When a winter clothing item is shown, the teacher will emphasise its name by asking the students to repeat it out loud.
This activity can be done by using laminated copies of the images. Alternatively, it can be done digitally by using an app that allows the teacher to drag images along a screen or the surface of an interactive whiteboard.
Activity 3: The teacher will give students a sheet of paper with images of various clothing items, like the one shown below. Students will be asked to colour only the winter clothing items.
Reflection: Children will sing along with the teacher a different version of the “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” song. For this, the teacher will change the lyrics and some movements as follows:
"Hat, jacket, scarf, and gloves"
Hat, jacket
(Touch head and shoulders)
Scarf and gloves
(Touch neck and clap hands)
Scarf and gloves
(Touch neck and clap hands)
Hat and jacket
(Touch head and shoulders)
Scarf and gloves,
(Touch neck and clap hands)
Warm and cozy in the snow!
(Hug yourself)
