Vermont may not have many murders but it is the birthplace of one of the most infamous serial killer of all time. Ted Bundy confessed to the rapes and murders of more than 30 women in the 1970s, and is almost certainly responsible for many more. He was good looking and charming, which made him disarming. He would sometimes put his arm in a sling and ask women for help carrying something. He just did not seem to fit the description of a mass murderer. But he was.
And he was born in Burlington Vermont on November 24, 1946 to a very young girl at the Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers, which once stood at 346 Shelburne Road (Route 7) just a few block north of the I-189 Interchange. A picture of the home is shown below.
A modern office building now marks the spot where the home once stood just across the street from Burlington Subaru. Behind the office building is a newer building—the Lund Center—which still handles adoptions and a wider array of services to vulnerable women.
Bundy left Burlington shortly after his birth. He was brought up in Philadelphia by his grandparents.
He was electrocuted in Florida on January 24, 1989 at the age of 42.
