books

There are several books we will find useful in this course, several of which are online for NCSU students and faculty. Unfortunately none of them is comprehensive enough to use alone. Below, we list those several books, and their strengths:

    • Hartson, R. & Pyla, P. (2019). UX Book - Agile UX Design for a Quality User Experience (2nd Edition). Elsevier. (ncsu)
    • Robier, J. (2016). UX Redefined: Winning and Keeping Customers with Enhanced Usability and User Experience, Springer. (ncsu)
    • Turner, P. (2017). A psychology of user experience involvement, affect and aesthetics, Springer. (ncsu)
    • Tullis, T., & Albert, W. (2013). Measuring the user experience: collecting, analyzing, and presenting usability metrics, 2nd ed. Morgan Kaufmann. (ncsu)
      • A nice focus on the measurement of user experience, but not much else.
    • Kuniavsky, M. (2012). Observing the user experience: a practitioner's guide to user research, 2nd ed. Morgan Kaufmann. (ncsu)
      • Good detail on the lightweight processes used in UX work. Little about research and the bases of UX practice.
    • Sauro, J., & Lewis, J. R. (2016). Quantifying the user experience: Practical statistics for user research. Morgan Kaufmann. (ncsu)
      • A useful book discussing the application of statistics to typically unanalyzed user experience research.
    • Beasley, M. (2013). Practical Web Analytics for User Experience: How Analytics Can Help You Understand Your Users. Newnes. (ncsu)
      • Focused very specifically on web analytics for user experience

You may find other related books that we haven't (yet) proved especially useful here.
