Canis latrans
"Alternately assuming the shape of a man or wild canine, Coyote is a trickster figure from Native American folklore.
As with other trickster figures, Coyote functions as a picaresque hero. He transgresses cultural expectations and societal rules, often to great effect. Tricksters are playful creatures, given to pranks and misdirection, and so their victories are often accomplished through deception and sly humor.
Although there are many variations, probably the most famous tale of Coyote involves the power of fire. Demonstrating the true spirit of a trickster, Coyote steals fire from the gods and gives it to humans."-Encyclopedia of American folklore
