Machine Translation and CAT Tools Laboratory

The Machine Translation and CAT Tools Laboratory of the University of Naples L'Orientale aims at providing an overview of translation technology.

The Lab introduces students to practical aspects related to the work of translators in the third millennium, which implies knowledge about electronic tools, such as machine translation, translation memories systems (TMS), online resources and corpus management.

The Lab gives a complete overview of all the stages of a translation work organized with the aid of translation technology. Topics to be covered include: pre-editing, post-editing, effective use of online search, text analysis tools, regular expressions, and corpora. Laboratory sessions give participants hands-on experience in organizing a translation work individually and in teams.

The module introduces students also to new forms of translation practices such as collaborative translation projects.
