Digital Storytelling Laboratory

The Digital Storytelling (DST) Laboratory is the first Digital Storytelling Lab at “L’Orientale” University of Naples.

The DST Lab aims at representing both an innovative teaching and learning methodology and also a place of experimentation and production that, due to the combination of traditional storytelling with digital multimedia, attempts to foster both linguistic and digital skills according to the Framework for 21st Century Learning.

The purpose is to help students enhance their critical thinking, learning motivation, collaboration, language competence and media literacy for lifelong learning to make them able to become digital and global citizens.

Students who take part in the Lab have the opportunity to experience a new way of teaching and learning, completely different from the traditional instructional face-to-face methodology because they are involved in a process based on active participation and collaboration that makes them able to enhance their personal attitudes by showing their knowledge, creativity, and imagination and learning how to use several sound, image, and video-editing software.

At the same time, students challenge and increase their linguistic competence and academic skills as both the Lab and the creative process are entirely realized in English and students are exposed to authentic English language in the form of dialogues, videos, images to improve their language fluency (as in the case of typical English sequences like Multi-Word Expressions), and their ability to comprehend, synthesize and convey a topic.

Everyone has a story to tell.
