In consonance with the extension function of a higher learning institution, all sectors of the UM Digos College shall participate and be involved in its community extension service.
Faculty and Staff Involvement
All faculty members and non-teaching personnel of the UM Digos College are required to engage in the community extension projects of the college or the university once every semester. The Community Extension Center shall issue a certificate of participation to the teachers upon the recommendation of the SOCI Coordinator and the Dean of the College. For the non-teaching employees on the other hand, the SOCI Coordinator of the College or the President of the Non-Teaching Personnel Association shall make the recommendation. CEC participation and involvement is included in the performance evaluation of all UM teaching and non-teaching employees.
Student Involvement
With the mission of UM in mind, students of the University of Mindanao are encouraged to render community extension service to its identified community partners. The spirit of volunteerism and deep social concern is developed among the students through community immersions and activities. Hence, the extension program wherein students participate is independent from the requirements of academic courses.
a.) To give recognition to the efforts of the students in community work, awards and / or certificates of involvement would be given.
STUDENT EXTENSION VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The lifeblood of the community extension program of the university is its students. They will be encouraged to join community extension services as part of their learning processes in the university. It is also intended that the community extension activities of the university will serve as a character molding effort of the academe to produce better students and citizens. Community involvement is believed to inculcate the action values galing, gawi, gawa at gana.
All UM students and student organizations are enjoined to be part of UM student’s extension volunteer program. Qualifications are as follows:
1. He/she is an enrolled student of the university.
2. He/she willing to serve the university’s community partners according to his/her abilities and according to the university’s extension program.
3. He/ she is willing to render extra hours in extension activities provided that it will not hamper his/ her class schedules.
The organizing and monitoring of student volunteers will be the main responsibility of the College Focal Person. Monthly meeting of the active department organization/ volunteer is recommended to enable the students to plan and to integrate their activities to the college AOP. The SOCI Coordinator/Focal Person who is assigned to be the point person for community extension will facilitate the monthly meeting.
