Mandatory Trainings and Certifications include CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens Training. Facilitators must receive these certifications within 3 months (90 days) of hire and keep current throughout employment.
1) CPR & 1st Aid & Narcan
Every quarter there are about 10 classes offered just for Recreation staff. You will have to complete an at home portion prior to the classroom session (which should last about 2 1/2 hours).
All trainings now include the Narcan training (2024)
Please reach out to the office, cc-staff@ucsd.edu, if you need the current dates for the quarter
If you miss a class that you have signed up for, you will likely lose the privilege of a free class.
The online portion of this class must be completed before attending the in-class portion.
You must have your CPR/First Aid certification - not having it may cause HR to separate you from the university
2) Injury and Illness Prevention (IIP) & Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP)
IIP: helps employees understand and avoid workplace risks
BBP: protect employees who can reasonably anticipate being exposed to bloodborne pathogens while performing job duties
Denise would like us to start doing these! Even though it isn't assigned you can still get paid.
It is necessary to take the UCSD Campus BBP workshop within 3 months of official hiring. Renew online annually. A current WFR or EMT cert fulfills the BBP requirement. 1st Aid does not.
