Elinor Ostrom

Elinor Ostrom

Born in Los Angeles, US, 1933. Elinor Ostrom obtained her PhD in Political Science in UCLA, and was a professor at the University of Indiana since 1966.

Her research was focused on various experimental works in which Ostrom demonstrated how communities are able to generate their own rules to regulate natural resources when their subsistence depends on it.

From these experimental works, as well as for the extense research on the economic analysis about collective action and public goods governance, she was awarded a Nobel Prize in 2009.

Sadly, Elinor Ostrom passed away in 2012.
