2014: Tirole
The 2014 prize was awarded to Jean Tirole "for his analysis of market power and regulation"
Jean Tirole devoted its research to competition, and more specifically on how to properly deal with market power using regulation.
His findings revolutionized the field and have enabled regulation to be specifically designed for each case, distancing policy makers from generalist solutions and instead allowing them to focus on specific cases, with different number of players, information assymetries, public entanglement into the market or different qualities of products/services, among others.
