Motor City BengaLs & Octopus THROWEr

Site Co-Expert RoleS

Dating back to my high school days, I have always viewed blogging as a side hobby and passion. I began writing as a contributor for Def Pen MLB. Eventually, I took over the MLB room and presided as the Lead Writer and Editor for Def Pen Sports’ MLB Division. This was all during high school.

Upon graduating high school, I set out for another place to continue my blogging, where I stumbled upon a site called Octopus Thrower, where I wrote about the Detroit Red Wings.

There, I met Bob Heyrman, who has been a mentor in the writing/blogging and journalism world. He has coached me and helped me learn about everything it takes to run a website and produce meaningful content. I would surely not be writing today without him. As Bob always says, there are always things to be learned, and even after blogging and writing for almost eight years, I still have room to learn new things and improve.

I stayed with Def Pen and Octopus Thrower during my Freshman year at Miami. After that, Bob and I took over Detroit Jock City (which now sits dormant on the FanSided network) as Co-Editors. We split topics pertaining to all of the Detroit area sports teams. I took the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. We ran that site together for almost two years before parting ways for calmer waters due to roadblocks.

Upon splitting up, Bob and I sought to reunite but could not do that until recently. I had the opportunity to return to Octopus Thrower to cover all things Detroit Red Wings related, serving as a Co-Editor with Bob once again.

Beyond that, I am also a Co-Editor for a site called Motor City Bengals, which covers all things Detroit Tigers. This has been a website where I can use my baseball knowledge to create engaging content with innovative ideas.

Writing has taught me a lot over the years, from being disciplined and detail-oriented; to staying creative and trusting my own judgment. It’s been a place where I have developed a passion. I even took enough classes in the Journalism field to cover half of a minor, which Miami University refers to as Thematic Sequences.

I write nearly daily as a way to continue to sharpen my baseball knowledge while writing about the Tigers. And also enjoy myself writing engaging and exciting content about the Detroit Red Wings.
