Student Manager Program

Before my freshman year at Miami University, I knew I wanted to be involved with the baseball program. I contacted Head Coach Danny Hayden via email and contacted him and Director of Baseball Operations Joe Forney, who helped me get involved.

My first year was eye-opening and offered me countless opportunities and experiences. I cannot express my gratitude to Coach Justin Dedman, Coach Forney, Coach Hayden, Coach Dusty Hess, and Coach Matthew Passauer for allowing me this opportunity and being so accepting of new ideas and creativity.

I would also like to thank Coach Bailey Montgomery, Coach Jeffrey Opalewski, and Coach Kyle Weldon for being so supportive as they came into the program. The new coaching staff has provided plenty of new opportunities to learn, grow, and lead in this empowering environment. All three coaches who joined the staff for the 2022 season (my final one in Oxford) have embraced the Student Manager's program and truly allowed me and others to continue to help find even more ways to help Miami get better each day.

I would not be where I am today without the opportunities presented during my first and second years with the Miami Baseball program. As a volunteer student manager that helped alongside three others, it even thinned down further. I was able to be the Head Manager during my time at Miami which helped as the years went by and the Miami Baseball Student Manager Program was created and developed.

We have brought structure, organization, and, most importantly, more help to the table. It was a massive move for the program and for myself to take a group of three to four managers and grow it to thirty-strong across many departments. It ranged from managers who wanted to help run an efficient practice by being out on the field helping feed machines to help with scouting projects for opposing games to developing our own app to reduce the number of paper charts and time to turn over the data. It helped us complete projects smoother and quicker to yield the best results for our coaching staff and, ultimately, the players.

It makes me proud to have been able to create a program that will leave a lasting impact on the Miami Baseball Program. I pride myself on knowing I left Miami Baseball better off than when I got there. Simply by taking every opportunity I can to help myself develop and impact the program to leave an autonomous organization to aid Miami's baseball program for years to come.

While working with the baseball program, I have been introduced to Blast Motion, K-Motion, Rapsodo, Synergy Baseball, and Trackman's Portable unit. I have grown my technical knowledge. Whether attending practice, feeding machines, charting bunts, charting batting practice, being around the facility, and soaking in knowledge is a priority.

Off the field, I have done plenty when it comes to data collection and data analysis using Google Sheets or Excel and creating reports for our coaching staff. I designed and formatted new hitters' and pitchers' scouting report templates used for the 2020 season and will continue to be updated and used again for years to come. With plenty of conversations with our new coaching staff, we were able to come up with some new templates for the 2022 season that helped prepare our players for each game with the best scouting information. On top of that, we have a plethora of charts and scouting information that is completed each week to help our program be the best prepared it can be.

My time at Miami has been incredible, and I could go on for hours talking about my experiences working with the Miami Baseball Program has brought. Feel free to contact me to learn more about my Student Manager Experience!
