Exporting game files

Exporting game files is necessary to modify them. Luckily, emulators have a build-in function to export the game files, and no hactool shenanigans are needed for this procedure.

Before attempting extraction, be sure you are on the game version you want to edit (for example 1.0.2).

To extract the game files, simply right-click on the game in emulator menu and pick the option to dump romfs files.

Ryujinx's dumping option.

Yuzu's dumping option, after picking to dump RomFS files, emulator asks what method of dumping user wants. Pick full mode.

Ryujinx will ask where to dump files.

Yuzu dumps files to the directory specified in options. To view dumping location, navigate to Emulation > Configure > System > Filesystem.

Dumping can take some time due to decryption and the large file size of the game, so patience is needed. After dumping the files, the emulator will notify you about the completion. Viewing unencrypted romfs files will now be possible. The usage and modification of those files will be explained in other parts of the wiki.
