About the Book
Henry, Frances, and Lukas used to be best friends. Now they’re just neighbors who barely talk. Middle school changed everything.
Then a dead gerbil leads them to something impossible: a radio buried in Henry’s backyard that connects them to kids living on the same street… in 1944.
At first, it feels harmless. The past kids want reassurance about the war. A few answers won’t change anything. Right?
Until Henry, Frances, and Lukas wake up to a present where Nazi flags fly and America has lost World War II.
They broke history. And if they want their world back, they’ll have to risk everything to fix it—before time runs out.
Praise for Westfallen:
"An engaging and fast-paced thriller."
– The Wall Street Journal
* “An exciting historical novel with time travel, wormholes, and a dystopian alternate reality. . . . Young readers will be caught up in the chilling events as seen through the eyes of the six friends, but so will adult readers.”
– School Library Journal, STARRED REVIEW
"The Brashares vividly illustrate the perils of forgetting lessons of the past in this historical science-fiction thriller... The racially and ethnically diverse cast’s crackling chemistry brings humor and heart to the pulse-pounding plot, which utilizes a timeworn premise to devastating effect."
– Publishers Weekly, STARRED REVIEW
“What a thrilling—and chilling—adventure! Take six kids separated by seventy-nine years, throw in a time-travel device none of them quite understand, and what’s the worst that could happen? All you have to do is read the first page of Westfallen, and you’ll be determined to find out—down to every last twist and turn that Ann Brashares and Ben Brashares dream up!”
