About the Author

While at MIT and conducting research on the neuroscience of reading, Livia Blackburne wrote her first novel.  This book, Midnight Thief, was the completion of the novel she had begun 12 years prior (as a way to get out of her high school's camping requirement).  Since this time she has made a full-time career out of writing novels for young adults.

About the Book

Becoming a healer was Zivah's destiny- until she was struck by the rose plague.  Now, she may never use her years of training for fear that her touch could kill instead of heal.

Dineas, once a soldier as strong as any, has been broken by torture at the hands of the enemy.  Driven by his need for revenge, he would do almost anything to sever the hold the Amparan Empire has on his tribe.

Two souls, each devastated by the past, search for a future where their loved ones are safe.  Sent out to spy on the enemy, Zivah and Dineas will be forced to work together in spite of their differences.  Will they find solace in one another or fail their mission when their differences get in the way?

Review:

"This is a fast-paced, well-written, can't-put-down fantasy that will appeal to a wide audience. A sequel will be in high demand. VERDICT Fans of Sabaa Tahir's An Ember in Ashes will be clamoring for more adventures with Zivah and Dineas." -School Library Journal
