Scouting For Food is the largest single-day food drive for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). This partnership has collected over 1 million pounds of food since 1995. Each year, the Scouting for Food collection is held on the second Saturday of November. On Nov. 9, 2024, we collected over 2,000 pounds of food! Thanks a ton!
Note delivery - Saturday, Nov. 2, 9 am - 12 pm. Meet in the Barcroft Elementary School parking lot, 625 Wakefield St. Arlington, VA 22204.
Food pickup - Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 am - 12 pm. Meet in the Barcroft Elementary School parking lot.
To prepare for this event, Scout volunteers leave notes on front doors so residents can gather non-perishable food to donate. The following Saturday, Scouts return to gather and sort the food donations. Finally, the food is delivered to AFAC where volunteers stock the shelves and prepare the food for distribution.
Watch your kids learn how they can help people in the community. In fact, the whole family can help! Come take a walk with our Scouts on the first Saturday. Enjoy Barcroft neighborhood Halloween decorations and Fall weather. On the second Saturday, bring your "chase vehicle" to follow the Scouts as they pick up donations. Drop them off just a few blocks away and know you've made a big difference.
The foods AFAC needs most are low-sodium and low-sugar:
• Canned soups • Canned vegetables
• Canned beans • Low sugar cereal
• Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, salmon) • Peanut butter in plastic jars
• Canned tomato products • Cooking oil in plastic bottles
*Please do not donate perishable food, glass jars, expired food, or household items.*
