The 162nd Regular Meeting of Tokyo Metropolitan Toastmasters Club

Our 162nd Meeting was held on October 22, 2016 at Kojimachi-Kuminkan. President TM SW introduced guests. Today we had 6 guests. With many guests, the room was packed with interesting people and hot air.

Today’s TMOM was TM KT. It was his first time to take the role as TMOM.

Today’s Word of the day was announced by TM KM as “just because ------, ------- doesn’t mean ------” in English and “--- dakara to itte, --- toiu wakedeha nai” in Japanese. The words were chosen because someone used the sentence on the TV on the night before. “Good & New” was also hosted by TM KM.

As the “News of the Week”, TM MU talked about Nigerian school girls who were kidnapped in April 2014 and the campaign against it called #BringBackOurGirls. First Lady Michelle Obama and Nobel Prize winner Malala joined the campaign to free the girls.

There were 4 prepared speeches.

First speech was made by TM TT with the title “Club kaikei tanto boshu no oshirase”. He served on the role for about a year and 2 months, and explained the benefits of the role based on his experiences. He asked the members to voluntarily take the role if they are interested in the role. Then, Q & A session followed.

2nd speech was made by TM YS with the title “Magical Diet” where he talked that in order to lose weight, he denied doing exercise in a gym or running around Koukyo. Instead, he recommended 3 rules which were “just do the exercise that turns you on very hard once in a quarter”. His theory was unconventional and fun.

3rd speech was delivered by TM TK with the title “Lost in Translation”. He didn’t know how to say the Japanese word “Komorebi” in English. And later he found the word picked up in a book called “Lost in Translation” where many words that can’t be translated in English are described and translated. He introduced to us some of the words that he liked from the book.

Last speech was delivered by TM SM with the title “Team”. She expressed her appreciation to the members who played a big role in the Division Contest.

As a snack for a break time, hand-made madeleines wrapped in a beautiful package were brought in for everyone. That was so delicious.

Table Topic session was hosted by TM YK. It was performed in an unique radio station style. TM YK acted as a radio caster as well listeners. And 4 listeners made a phone call to tell their troubles and ask for our advice.

Evaluation session was led by General Evaluator TM NM. Today’s evaluators for the prepared speeches were TM SW, TM YI, TM NS and TM MT.

The Awards were given to the following members;

TM SN for the Best Table Topics,

TM NS for the Best Evaluator

and TM TK for the Best Speaker

Initiation ceremony was conducted, and we welcomed 2 new members.
