Our geography curriculum develops children's curiosity about the human and physical world around them. We learn about a wide range of local, national and global geography and critically consider the impact that humans are having on the world we live in.

At Two Moors Primary School, we teach geography with the aim of enabling and encouraging all children to become active global citizens that make a positive contribution to the world around them. We want to foster life-long learning by encouraging and enabling pupils to take more ownership of their learning through their questioning.
Pupils will become globally-aware citizens. Through an understanding of physical geography, which looks at the natural processes of the Earth, and human geography, which looks at the impact of people, our pupils will begin to see the interconnected nature of these processes. This knowledge will then enable them to actively participate in their community and contribute to solving larger geographical issues.
We know that geography is all around us, all of the time; we want our children to understand that they are able to have a postive impact on the world we live in and our curriculum lays the foundation for that.
The geography curriculum at Two Moors has been carefully designed to suit our school and children. Leaders have ensured that the curriculum is not only interesting, exciting and engaging for all pupils, but also the following:
Progressive in knowledge in skills throughout the school.
Key elements are revisited at regular intervals to ensure long term memory retention.
Linked to core texts wherever possible.
Clear end points for each unit of learning that we want the children to achieve.
Hands-on experiences/off-site learning/visitors
Using a range of geographical skills: enquiry, investigation, analysis, evaluation, presentation.
Geography may be taught as a discrete unit of learning but may also be taught as part of a larger topic. Teachers have autonomy to decide how best to ensure the children are working through our agreed curriculum at the appropriate level and pace.
Children are supported and challenged to help them meet age-related expectations each year. We monitor the impact of our geography teaching through:
- Using pupil voice to discuss individual learning.
- Monitoring pupils’ geography books for quality of work, progression of skills and depth of knowledge and understanding.
- Moderating assessments for attainment and progress across year groups and across the key stages.
- Visits to geography lessons
- Monitoring the knowledge and understanding the children retain over time and the number of children who are successfully meeting the end of year milestones.
