Our approach to assessing the retention of knowledge – i.e., learning –within the foundation subjects (click to find out more).
At Two Moors Primary School we use:
· Ongoing questioning to support each teacher’s and teaching assistant’s formative AfL within lessons; these questions will vary and be adapted depending on age/ability of the children.
· Retrieval time is built into all lessons. This is used to support the retention of knowledge as well as to assess gaps in learning and misconceptions and therefore inform future re-teaching.
· End of unit assessment quizzes are used in some subjects – these are used to support the teacher’s summative assessments.
· End of unit assessment tasks are used in some subjects – these use the knowledge and skills the children have learnt over the unit and give the children a chance to reinforce their learning and show what they have remembered.
· Children and teachers are clear on the core substantive knowledge that needs to be taught and learnt in each unit and plan their sequence of learning based on this.
· Summative assessments are inputted on Insight twice per year (mid and end of year).
· Leaders at all levels evaluate this data to inform action plans and next steps.
