SPRING IN KNYSNA: EASY IDEAS FOR YOUR STAY 

Spring is a good time to spend more of the day outdoors in Knysna. The days are getting longer, the forests are green after winter, and there is plenty happening around town.

The weather can still change quickly, so it helps to keep a few options in mind: a walk when the morning is clear, a market visit or a browse in town, an easy family outing, or some time beside the lagoon.

GET OUTDOORS THIS SPRING 

Start close to home with a walk beside the lagoon, a visit to the viewpoints at The Heads, or some time at Coney Glen or Steenbok Nature Reserve on Leisure Isle.

For a forest outing, the Garden of Eden is an easy boardwalk option, while Jubilee Creek and Circles in the Forest suit guests who would like a longer walk.

Spring also falls within the whale-watching season, which generally runs from June to November. Keep an eye out from the coastal viewpoints, or consider a boat-based trip if sea conditions are suitable.

MARKETS & LOCAL BROWSING 

Saturday mornings are a good time to head towards Sedgefield for the Wild Oats, Mosaic and Scarab markets, where you can browse fresh produce, food, crafts and local goods.

Closer to Knysna, the Waterfront and Thesen Harbour Town are easy places for a morning wander, while local galleries and independent shops are worth exploring if you would prefer to stay in town.

September and early October also bring Artisan Culture Knysna, with workshops, demonstrations, markets and creative experiences taking place at venues around Greater Knysna. Our Events Calendar has the current details.

EASY SPRING OUTINGS WITH CHILDREN 

The lagoon, beach and nearby Knysna Heads are often enough for an easy morning out. Steenbok Nature Reserve and the Garden of Eden are also good options when you want something outdoors without committing to a full-day excursion.

For a more structured outing, Knysna Elephant Park makes an easy half-day outing. Further afield, Sedgefield, Wilderness and the wildlife attractions around The Crags give families plenty of options for a longer day out.

If the weather changes, the Knysna Waterfront, The Motorcycle Room or a browse around Thesen Harbour Town can work well.

WHAT’S ON THIS SPRING 

Spring brings a busy mix of festivals, markets, live music, comedy and family events to Knysna and the surrounding area.

Heritage weekend is particularly lively this year, with the Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival, Artisan Culture Knysna, Waterside Wine Weekend and the Lions Karoo to Coast all taking place towards the end of September. October and November bring further events, including the Garden Route Kite Festival and Leisure Isle Festival.

BACK TO THE LAGOON

Some of the best spring days are simple ones: a walk or market in the morning, lunch somewhere along the way, and enough time to come back to the lagoon for the afternoon.

If conditions are suitable, take a paddle, spend some time on the sand, or simply enjoy being outside a little longer before supper.
