Flight dynamics have been modified based on official Boeing technical specifications and hours of testing. Many other updates and improvements. Original aircraft made by Project Opensky. Please see the Readme file.
Boeing 747-8F Freighter Modification
This is a freeware Boeing 747-400F that I obtained from simviation. The original model was developed by Project Opensky. The VC was updated by Alejandro Rojas Lucena. The built-in FMC is from Garret Smith.
Aircraft engine sounds are not included.
The GPWS and Groundhandling gauges were made by Rob Barendregt. The Jelair Vspeeds/Callout gauge was made by Jacob Larsen.
**The Jelair Vspeeds/Callout gauge must be opened once to activate it.**
***Put the effect files Opensky_condens.fx and Opensky_vortex.fx in your P3D Effects folder***
I have made the following modifications:
1. Removed the built-in Landing lights from the model. Updated the model to use new Boeing-specific strobe lights.
2. Modified the VC cockpit model - added a pitot heat switch to the overhead panel, fixed the armrest animation so that it raises up and down even while in flight, added a mouse area over the elevator trim indicator which displays the trim setting and which can be dragged or wheeled to change the trim, and fixed the VC Autobrake switch so it now works.
3. Moved the VC model forward and higher to its correct position for the 747-8 and adjusted eyepoint.
4. Modified the empty and max weight as well as the cargo loads.
5. Changed the moments of inertia for more realistic feel and handling.
6. Adjusted the reference datum position, station loads positions, engine positions, fuel tank positions, and contact points.
7. Corrected airplane geometry values.
8. Set engine thrust to correct value for the GEnx 2B67, added additional fuel flow gain entries for a longer and more realistic engine start sequence, set engine inlet area to correct value, and changed min throttle limit for more realistic reverser thrust.
9. Modified the fuel tank values to reflect the fuel quantity for the 747-8 freighter with standard 3 tanks.
10. Updated flap and slat values to reflect 747-8 actual settings and adjusted scalars for realistic performance.
11. Adjusted some flight tuning scalar values for more realistic behavior and handling.
12. Changed toe brake scale for more realistic braking effect.
13. Added the contrail effect to the effects section.
14. Added new Boeing-specific beacon lights, and new landing and taxi lights.
15. Added the GPWS, Groundhandling, and Jelair Vspeed gauges to the panel.
16. Adjusted the EGT max temp and scalar in the AIR file to display the GEnx 2B67 engine EGT more accurately.
17. Adjusted the Total Drag and landing gear drag in the AIR file for more realistic climb and cruise behavior.
18. Modified the panel - added EICAS and Lower EICAS popup panels that open when the displays are clicked in the VC, added Groundhandling gauge, GPWS, and Vspeeds gauge.
19. Modified the upper EICAS display gauge - added new Warning, Caution, and Advisory messages and removed others, changed message colors to white, yellow, and red depending on message type, replaced EPR section with N1 to conform with GE engine variant, adjusted redline values for N1 and EGT readings to match GEnx 2B67 specifications, changed TAT readings font to make this easier to read, removed variable update element as this was unnecessary, added total fuel reading in kilograms.
20. Modified the lower EICAS display gauge - added a click area on the display which opens a 2-D popup window, made a new 2-D popup window which displays fuel flow in kilograms per hour instead of pounds like the VC display, adjusted caution and redline values for oil temp and oil pressure, adjusted redline value for N2 reading, adjusted N2 reading by 18% to better simulate the actual GEnx 2B67 N2 percent, changed font for oil temp and pressure readings, adjusted label positions.
21. Modified the MFD gauge - Added a +/- click area to the upper right of the display which changes the VOR OBI Course Heading, adjusted the position of some readings and labels.
22. Modified the Jelair Vspeeds gauge to provide more accurate speeds for the 747-8.
23. Added a custom Kneeboard checklist and reference page.
The modifications were made based on official aircraft specifications contained in Boeing documents. The aircraft was tested using P3Dv6, but should work fine in P3Dv4-6 and possibly even earlier versions and FSX.
