"SUMMAsampalataya kaya SUMMAbit", says Sam Sydryk Dealagdon, the first ever Summa Cum Laude of the College of Communication (COC) of West Visayas State University (WVSU).
Alas, Academic Year 2021 - 2022 bids its end with a fresh batch of graduates. Among the graduates, COC is proud to produce the first ever Summa Cum Laude in the person of Dealagdon, a Bachelor of Science in Development Communication (BSDC) student.
COC is yet to witness a historical moment today β July 21, 2022, having Dealagdon march the stage with the highest distinction given to a tertiary student. Dealagdon imprints his name with a legacy for the College.
On a facebook post, Dealagdon shared that it was a tough journey experiencing the agony from the set-up, given the shifting of the traditional classes to online for more than two years due to the pandemic. He admitted that he lost his hopes when his performance tumbled with the new learning environment, and so he has to work on the last few months as he still sees "hope" to clutch what is meant for him.
"I am telling you this because I want you to appreciate the idea of hope. I want you to cling to it. I want you to hope just like what I did. There are times when we feel like it's game over for us when, in fact, it isn't yet. Sometimes, apprehension gets the best of us; making us doubt and even surrender ahead of time. Never put a period when it isn't over yet. Believe, hope, and pray because He always listens," Dealagdon shares words of inspiration to his facebook account.
As he was conferred with the award, Dealagdon expressed his gratitude to the Academe, West Visayas State University, the College of Communication, and to all who never fail to believe in him.
"Today, I received my academic medal inscribed with the distinction I prayed hard for. Tomorrow, I'll be wearing it around my neck and on my chest to remind myself to always rise above the what ifs and maybes. It's a lesson learned to always hope when there's a reason to do so. I will forever cling to that," he added.
Dealagdon was also one of the Editorial Staff of The Mediator, the official publication of the College of Communication. Thus, among the 93 candidates for graduation from COC, the Mediator would like also to congratulate the following graduating senior staffs:
Gregorio, Eunice Lapido - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, Sala, Greg Nicole Grinn - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, Duro, Jovy LaΓ±ohan - CUM LAUDE, Esmao, Jonahvie Molina - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, Herrera, John Noel Escullar - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, Mestidio, Rio Abegail Pagayonan - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, Nebres, Joseph Henry Maglasin - CUM LAUDE, Samperoy, Kizza Marru Tuya - MAGNA CUM LAUDE, and Supiter, Sheila Mae Mahilum - CUM LAUDE
