Avantiswara Temple is situated about a kilometre to the northwest of Avantiswami temple. This temple was also excavated by Daya Ram Sahni like Avantiswami temple.
Around the main temple, like Avantiswami temple, miniature shrines were built. The main temple was conceived in the form of a simple miniature structure having flights of steps only on the western side. The original structure has a platform of 18.30 m square and the walls of this base area are 3.05 m high which were made by filling the central part with boulders.
Over the solid structure sanctum walls were raised with a pyramidal roof, the traces of which and many architectural fragments were found during the work conducted in the year 1987-88. Whether this structure fell down on its own or was demolished cannot be said precisely as no clear evidence of its possible destruction in ancient times was visible. It appears that the super-structure fell down immediately after the construction or during the process and subsequently, steps were added on all the cardinal sides and a shrine of Ishwar was made having four entrances. Subsequently, a few miniature shrines were also added.
The temple complex was also surrounded by a peristyle of which only the basement survives1.
