The site is surrounded by River Jehlum on the west and residential quarters on the other three sides. The precinct of Khanqah-i-Mualla is approached through a modern domed stone gateway, leading down to the khanqah along with a series of stone steps. The khanqah is preceded by a stone-paved courtyard with two raised stone sufas (platforms) on either side of the path directly leading onto the khanqah. On the northern side of the khanqah lies a double-storey building housing the hammam. To the southwest of the khanqah lies the square single-story shrine of Baba Wali. On the western side lies a promenade located on the top of a stone retaining wall overlooking the River Jhelum. A series of steps lead down from the promenade towards the ghat which is a sacred spot for the Hindus and is devoted to the goddess Durga. Two single-story structures have recently been constructed on the retaining wall, overlooking the ghat. On the southern side of the khanqah lies an open graveyard. The promenade facing the river also contains certain isolated stone cenotaphs1.
