The enclosure within the precinct of the Budshah Tomb, containing the cenotaphs of the Shahmiri Sultans of Kashmir is known as Mazar-i-Salateen. The Mazar lies on the northern side of the precinct with the tomb of Zain-ul-Abideen’s mother on its southern side. It contains, amongst others, the grave of Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen, the renowned King of Kashmir.
A seven feet high stone wall with a domed arched gateway at the centre encloses the cenotaphs of medieval rulers of Kashmir. The stone wall is decorated with miniature arches and is covered with a sloping stop coping. The gateway is flanked by two stone sculptures, probably ruins of a Hindu temple that originally occupied the site. Internally, the mazar is covered with a series of stone cenotaphs on its western side. The area around these cenotaphs has recently been covered with dressed stone paving1.
