Animus
Animus
Named for its brutal wildlife and ecosystem, Animus is a place of never ending danger. Here upon The Starving Isle, it is a eat or be eaten kind of realm and regardless of what you are, your place on the food chain is ever changing. Prey can become predator, hunter can become the hunted and if you do not eat your enemies first then they will surely devour you. Hunger rules the isle with an iron paw and you must do all that you can to ensure you will survive for no one else will.
Animus has snow all year round. Summers and winters on the island last six months each, with the summer periods being the longest for daylight and winter being for its nights when Animus is at its most coldest and harshest. The ice sheets covering the island's waters are at their most strongest during the night months, making traveling across Animus safer and easier than the day months.
A Flat World
The wolves of Animus have no knowledge or belief that a world exists beyond the isle. All wolves that had ever existed have only been from Animus, off-islanders do not exist. The Ignited Ones speak that the world is flat and believe that there is only the ocean extending until one falls off it, never reaching any bottom should wolf or beast plummet off the edge of the world.
The distance between Animus and any other land masses is too far a swim for any wolf to reach without death by exhaustion, exposure or predation by sea life. Wolves that have tested the wrath of the great sea have never returned, whether they made it off Animus or not isn't known. The ocean means death and the wolves do not risk their lives trying to test the theory if more exists beyond the horizon.
Storulfur | The Great Wolf
Storulfur, The Great Wolf, is the largest of the islands of Animus. Large enough that many of its regions are far larger than the entirety of other isles. The island's main divisive feature is The Coiled Range, a long chain of dead volcanoes covered in glaciers and only broken up by a few mountain passes.
On the western edge can the Fryhtan Peninsula be found, dominated on the south by a still-active volcanic peak, and on the north by a modest system of river valleys.
At its thickest part, near Storulfur's center, the dormant volcanoes known as the Halflings jut up into the horizon.
On the eastern shores of Storulfur, one can find the swampland of the Arkto River, where many Hunted Ones migrate towards during the hardest months of winter. On the southern shores, framed by the Coiled Range, can be found a scabrous landscape of massive and jutting cliffs and buffs, inhospitable to most large fauna.
The islands center is dominated by two lakes, Skoll and Hati. Lake Skoll is upland and thin, fed by dozens of rivers flowing down the Coiled Range, much of the grassy savannas and broadleaf forests of the archipelago are around its shores.
Lake Skoll feeds into the massive form of Lake Hatti, which itself is surrounded by even larger forestry, including montane upland evergreens. While the lake has a few islands within it, most are small.
Separated from the rest of Storulfur by Loch Waelfang is the volcanic province known as the Five Kelkers. While none of the Kelkers are particualrly tall or active, the region is never without a river of lava or a plume of toxic gas. Despite this, the activity keeps the land warm even in winter, making it a good option for those daring enough.
Veikindi | The Sickness
Southwest of Storulfur one can see the gently sloping hills of Veikindi, The Sickness. This mostly barren island is, in truth, the visible tip of the archipelago's largest and most active volcano. Veikindi's constantly fuming crater has earned it comparison to the symptomatic frothing shown by those afflicted by the Soulless Sickness. Food is scare to find in this island, making the commonality of soulless here far from a superstitious coincidence. The smoke clouds that often blot out the sun don't help its reputation, either.
Litillulfur | The Little Wolf
The northern and western areas of Litillulfur are known as The Fjorland, a land named after the many fjords and deep valleys found in it.
The alpine lake known as Loch Eldur sits on top of the island's highest peak, and is the crater of Mount Eldur, a dormant volcano. While this volcano keeps the waters of the lake surprisingly warm year-round, those living along the peaks that make its edges need to be careful, least the noxious gas produced by Eldur escape its tranquil waters and chokes them all out.
Loch Eldur's waters flow down the Hoofed River, the longest river in all of Animus. This river earned its many by way of the many oxbowl lakes found along its course.
The river meets its end in Coney Bay, framed by the Ravaged Peninsula on the west.
Brotnar-Tennur Archielago | The Broken Teeth
The Brotnar-Tennur Archielago, The Broken Teeth, is found to the west of Litillulfur, and is made up by a series of harsh islands with little tree coverage. These islands bare a fearsome reputation, as much of the Weredon and Snican population of Animus calls them home.
The Stigsteinars | The Stepstones
The Stigsteinars, The Stepstones, by comparison are the much smaller and gentler islands found between Storulfur and Litillulfur. They are gentle, safe and very small oasis's for those who call it home, even if in exchange they become completely exposed to those moving across the ice sheets in the winter. Those who spend the summer here rearing their young should take care to vacate the premises before larger beasts make their way to their homes.
Heimsbrun Islands | The World's Edge
Finally, there are the Heimsbrun Islands, The World's Edge. While their geography is by far the most gentle, they are in fact covered by much of Animus' taigas and tundras, as their location in the north make them cold even by the archipelago's standards. The ice sheets here last the longest across the year, and one will not find anything alive here other than the most well-adapted. The volcanoes on these islands are the closest of all to becoming fully inhert.
Claimed Territory
Below, you can see what sections of the isle are taken by other clans. You are allowed to pick anywhere on the map to found a clan that suits your needs best. Multiple clans can share the same island as well. When founding a clan, you'll pick a color to represent the logo.
