The Killing Ones
The Killing Ones
The Killing Ones are hunter beasts, predators that compete and threaten the existence of The Ignited Ones as they fight for limited resources. They can also just be animals that are strictly or primarily meat eaters and aren't active threats to the wolves. These beasts will hunt one another should the opportunity arise.
Beommoth
Beommoth are a beast nobody dare contend with due to their imposing size and unmatched power. With massive tusks, sharp fanged teeth and razor-like claws, they dominate the isle as a top killer. They live in packs made up of mothers and their cubs. Female Beommoth stay in the pack forever while the males eventually move on. Bad tempered, Beommoth are always throwing their weight around. They hunt their prey by charging into them and then smashing the beast into the ground to kill it. When packmates die, they hold funerals and mourn their dead.
Nimravid
Nimravid prefer mountains and cliffsides, using the environment to their advantage. They transverse rugged rocky terrain with ease by leaping and bounding across cliffs. This also translates into how they chase down prey. They are a shy and elusive beast known for their solitary nature though males might form coalitions. Their fangs work as a social display and for combative use. Nimravid are unlikely to pick fights and are easily spooked off by bolder competition. They prefer scare tactics first over resulting to violence. Their claws are retractable.
Kelkar
Kelkar are an aggressive and highly territorial beast that will choose violence every chance it gets. They are a solitary animal with little tolerance for others, even of their own kind outside of mating or their young calves. Kelkar use their sharp horns and tusks to fight, as well as to hunt and protect their resources. Their faces tend to be heavily laden in many scars from sparring. Kelkar have extremely poor eyesight and so depend on their strong sense of smell and hearing to navigate their world. Their bite force is deadly when it gets its jaws on food or foe.
Arkto
Arkto live in isolation, only coming together with others of their own kind during courtship or to raise their young cubs. They are a dangerous combination of strength, stamina and speed. Once an Arkto has seen its target, it will quickly chase it down with lightning fast reflexes. Their large manes act as a social display and as protection for their throats, both genders have this magnificent ruff. Arkto claws are semi-retractable and they eat prey while it is still alive. Often, Snican and Arkto have a close rivalry for resources and prey.
Kraa
Kraa are blood drinkers and will burrow their beak into the flesh of beasts for an easy meal. The many bones in their neck allows them to rotate it in all directions. Their eyes are very keen and Kraa use them to find food such as insects, fruits and nuts. Kraa often eat parasites off other beasts and scavenge meat from kills left behind. Gifting Kraa food and trinkets is known to forge you an ally for life. They are capable of mimicking voices like False Ones can and often Ignited Ones train Kraa to deliver messages using these echoed voices.
Lych
Terrors of the sky, Lych with their enormous size will swoop down to abduct prey in their mighty talons. Anything its keen eyes has fancied will be considered a meal, even if larger and heavier than itself. There have been many horror stories of these beasts lifting a grown wolf airborne to never be seen again. A hunter and scavenger, Lych are opportunists and never let chances to eat slip through their claws. Their powerful wings let Lych fly and soar for long distances. Lych stay with their mates for life and are a long lived species that doesn't breed often. It is said seeing a Lych is an omen of death and misfortune to come.
Fryhtan
Fryhtan can be found living close to shorelines patrolling alone or with their packmates. They are a tall and massive beast descended from terror birds, able to hunt the large Hunted Ones such as Reindyr, Hyllmunt and Hross with ease. They are flightless but what they lack in the air they make up for in speed due to their powerful legs as Fryhtan are extremely fast. Fryhtan pair up with one mate their entire life and their packs are made up of the parents and their chicks. Their sharp beaks, talons and devastating kick force make quick work of food or foe.
Waelfang
Waelfang are often found patrolling the shorelines looking for food to eat and for a Waelfang anything is edible if it tries hard enough. Their bodies are dense with layers of fat, keeping the beast warm in the harsh Animus climate. Their fur is thick and waterproof, as often they are found swimming. Deceptively slow on land, they are a speedy threat when in water. They are commonly seen covered in scars from fighting and hunting. Waelfang live in groups called pods, herds or huddles and these can range from a few couple members to as large as hundreds.
