The 24 R and W airframes are all serial numbered in sequence from (x)46-101 to (x)46-399. The R or W added for which ever engine was installed.

  • 203 as the 24R46 (24R46's re-fitted with the 200hp engines designated as 24R46A)

  • 97 as the 24W46

  • Engine - Ranger 6-440-C2, 175 h.p. @ 2,450 r.p.m

Researching Fairchild's has been a bit of a pain. Trying to find serial numbers that are formatted different on the registry is a bit of a challenge. Typically documented (for example) as R46-303, variations can be found, i.e. "303", "R303" "R46-303" and even "R-303". Would be nice if they were all the same ;-). Engine modifications don't help either.....

Here is an example on why a 24W46 or 24R46 can never be a "UC-61". There is a distinct difference on the nomenclature for each. The serial numbers are stand-alone, no letters.

Complementing the factory plate is the USAAF plate. This "UC61K" is typically documented as UC-61K.
