Enrolments are now open for Term 4!
Meet Ben. By day, Ben dons the hat of an engineer, contributing his skills to shaping the physical world. Meanwhile, in the realm of the arts, Ben plays a vital role at The Creative Dance, where he efficiently manages administrative tasks, issues invoices, and handles bookkeeping with precision.
Musically, Ben's achievements are numerous.
In 2011, Ben added his voice to the NZ Choral Federation Choir during the Rugby World Cup. He has also been a member of the New Zealand Secondary Schools Brass Band and the Ascot Park Brass Band.
He earned an Associate Diploma in Pianoforte Performance from The St Cecilia International School of Music in 2012 and clinched the Southland Competitions Pianoforte Championship. Leading the Verdon College Jazz Band and serving as the Bass Section Leader of Panache, Ben played a crucial role in the group's silver win at an international competition in Sydney.
Not confined to instrumental accomplishments, Ben has left an indelible mark on the world of Musical Theatre. From playing the keyboard in Invercargill Musical Theatre (IMT) productions like "Jesus Christ Superstar" in 2011 and "Wicked" in 2019, embodying the character of Eugene in "Grease - The Arena Spectacular" in 2018, to contributing to "It's My Party" Theatre Restaurant and Jersey Boys in 2023, Ben has proven to be a versatile and dynamic force in the theatrical realm. His dance moves must have impressed Bella (who was playing Cha-Cha at the time) enough during Grease as they ended up marrying.
Collaboration and community engagement are also prominent in Ben's repertoire. He's played the organ at St Theresa's, accompanied and sung in numerous choirs, and participated in chamber music groups.
While Ben may have conquered stages and competitions, they humorously confess to possessing "2 left feet," adding a touch of humility to his impressive musical journey and might be Bella's most difficult student yet. As Ben continues to contribute to the vibrant world of music and the arts, his dedication and passion remain unwavering.
