Favorite Christmas Movies!
by Jacey Veltman
Ho Ho Ho! Christmas is here at last. To get into the holiday spirit, I asked a bunch of CPA students what their favorite Christmas movie is. We got responses from The Nightmare Before Christmas to Die Hard (apparently it’s a Christmas movie!) But can you guess what the best Christmas movie is? (click for more)
If you guessed How the Grinch Stole Christmas, you’d be correct. Elf and Home Alone came in second and third. I asked some CPA students to write about their favorite movies.
Chloe’s favorite movie is Home Alone, and she said: “Being home alone for the holidays wouldn't be fun. But being home alone for Christmas after you've had a big fight with your family, claiming that you wanted them to 'disappear', having your home targeted by bandits, and coming to realize that maybe what you wished for wasn't the best idea? That is what describes the movie Home Alone. The reason why I enjoy watching Home Alone in December is because of tradition. For as long as I can remember, my family and I have always watched Home Alone during the Christmas season.”
Gracianna’s favorite movie is How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and she wrote a bit about how awesome it is: “Through the combination of comedic elements and emotional depth, Jim Carrey's Grinch movie stands out as a timeless classic that also shows how he drowns himself entirely into the character. It's a role that has Jim Carrey written all over it.”
Since Elf is my favorite movie, this is my opinion: “Elf is an amazing movie that follows Buddy as he discovers he isn’t an elf, but rather a human! Not only is he a human, but his father is on the naughty list. He does the only reasonable thing: he travels to modern-day NYC to change his father. The only problem is that nobody believes in Santa anymore. This movie is incredible. It is super funny and Will Ferrell did an amazing job!”
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year CPA! See you in 2024.

Happy Holidays!! I’m sure many of you, including me, have been looking forward to December, and now it is finally here! In celebration of the fact that it will soon be Christmas, I will present to you a short article talking about the favorite holidays of students at CPA as well as two Christmas traditions that students were willing to share.
Without further ado, here are the results for the poll:
Christmas being voted as the favorite day of the year was expected, but honestly there were so many more votes for it than I would have thought. I predicted that there would have been a few more votes for the last day of school, as the end of school means three whole months of break...

Christmas is almost here, and I am super excited!! I mean, who doesn’t love the lights, Christmas trees, and hot chocolate? But it is important to remember what Christmas is really about. It is about Jesus, God’s perfect plan for salvation, and many promises fulfilled. You see, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, He didn't scramble around and try to come up with a plan B. God knew what Adam and Eve would do from the beginning. And thank goodness He didn’t say, “Well, that failed. Humans are a lost cause.” Instead, He had patience and let His plan for salvation unravel. Ecclesiastes 3:11 states: “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” God’s timing is perfect, and He makes no mistakes. And so, when baby Jesus was born, where He was born, and the people He was with was no accident. But don’t stop there! God is in control every second of every day because He has not yet finished His perfect plan. And just like baby Jesus, we are in His story.

My name is Andrea Alvarado, and I am so excited to announce that the High School Study Groups will be starting for this semester's finals exams!
It's been a work in progress. It almost feels like a dream the way it's coming together! I hope that these meetings will not only be helpful but fun, and that other students will take advantage of this opportunity. Four years ago I came to CPA to start my first year of high school and I fell in love with the community and the flexibility. I also found our tutoring office hours to be lifesavers more than once. But I’ve always wondered: is there a way to study with other kids in my class other than a coincidental meeting during a tutoring time? Well, last year it came to me: online study groups. I have been working ever since on developing a working system to fit our schools day by day process and couldn't have done it without my organization team and the support of the school directors and staff.

Semester exams are just around the corner! Students will be independently preparing for these exams, including you, but we would like to help out with something a little extra — Study Groups! Here we will talk about study tips and tricks. We will also separate you into a breakout-room so that you can study and review with other students in your class based on your response in the sign-up sheets. Each breakout room will have its own leader, and we will also have teacher supervisors. There will be a folder for every breakout room creating the opportunity to share your documents and notes with your peers. You can use these documents to ask questions, make comments, or voice concerns.(Just make sure to put your name and grade in the title of your document.) You will also be able to see everyone else's notes and respond to their questions. This meeting will be around 2 hours long, counting our conversation and game time at the end of our meetings!
The Study groups will start on the 16th of January and continue until the 19th. Once you sign-up with the link below, we will send you an email with a poll so that we can take your time availability into consideration while deciding the exact time of each meeting. We will also send you an email with the Zoom link on the 15th of January.
