Halloween has just passed and November is upon us. ‘Tis now a time of pumpkin, thankfulness, and comfort food, or is it? You see, for some people, November signals the change to not Thanksgiving, but straight to Christmas. To a few, this may seem normal, to others crazy, or maybe you think they are one-off Christmas fanatics, but how many are really living around us? Is there truly a proper time to start celebrating Christmas, or is everything left to one’s discretion? Well, welcome to the Great Christmas Debate, where no one is right and everyone is wrong.

Have you ever really wanted something? Maybe you wanted to try a new hobby, go somewhere, buy some trendy clothes, or get some cash. As a modern-day teenager, I can say “YES!” In all of these scenarios. But, we often hear the word “no,” don’t we? And, that is a hard word to hear. But, did you know that Jesus said no to a man who wanted to follow Him? In Mark chapter five, there is a demon-possessed man. He was very dangerous to others and himself. So, people did not pass his way, knowing they could get hurt. But what do you think Jesus did? He went straight up to that man and healed him. Using his power, Jesus drove the demon out and into a pig pin. Unfortunately, the townspeople did not appreciate that, so they begged Jesus to leave. “But As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ So the man went away and began to tell Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed” Mark 5:18-20. You see? Something that seemed so good, Jesus refused. I mean, wouldn't you want to be with your healer? But, God really does work in mysterious ways. So, the next time you really, really want something, ask God if that passion is from Him, or your own self desires.

Reading is a popular pastime for many, and even those who do not actively read still have their favorite stories. It is always fun being able to compare favorite books with others and finding out why they like different kinds. That is why I thought it would be fun to learn what the most popular books are in this school! Besides favorites, I also surveyed who and what the most popular genres and authors are. Thankfully 69 students responded, many of whom were willing to write a short review for this article. Before proceeding further, please be aware that some of the books that are mentioned may be seen as controversial to some families at our school. This article is not attempting to promote any of them in any way, shape, or form. In addition, I have not personally read all of these books, so I apologize in advance if anything is incorrect or is not portrayed in the correct way.
Oh the Places You’ll Go

At CPA, we have the wonderful opportunity to meet people all over the world. We have students from Thailand, Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, Japan, and Italy just to name a few. I asked some CPA students if they could visit anywhere in the world where they would go. I received answers from CPA students all the way from a small town in India called Dhanushkodi to Paris, France! CPA students want to visit the Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Russia, Japan, and of course all of Europe.

I asked some of the students to write about where they live. Benjamin lives in Japan and said “Japan is a great place to visit and live. The culture focuses on being very respectful to anything and everyone, so you’ll find people to be very hospitable. The scenery in Japan, usually you’ll find to be city type, but there is also the countryside which is also beautiful. I would recommend to see Mount Fuji just because it is a great view, but also to see cherry blossoms, especially during maybe late March or April, because when the cherry blossoms fall from the trees it looks like snow." So if you ever visit Japan make sure to go in March or April to see Mount Fuji!( I have a couple other responses from people who live in Japan, so if you would like to see those click this link )What Japan is Like.
Klari lives in Italy and says ”I live in the northern part of Italy. The summers are hot and dry, and the winters are cold and wet. In winter, it rains a lot and there are many beautiful thunderstorms, and you only really see snow on the hills near the mountains. If you drive up into the mountains in winter, there are small lakes that freeze over, and you can walk on them. The people here are kind but a little closed in. However, they are very friendly with children." Well, that sounds awesome! I hope I can visit Italy one day.
Lillian lives in Hawaii and says, "Hawaiian culture is more friendly than the mainland. If you don't know an older person, you address them as ‘auntie’ and ‘uncle”. Hawaii is a beautiful island. I explore it by hiking almost every weekend to watch the sunsets and sometimes the sunrise. There are a lot of famous hikes here and places to see to learn more about Hawaiian culture.
What cool insight we got into what life in Japan and Italy is like. I hope this gives you inspiration for your future travels! Also, what a great opportunity we all have here at CPA that we are making friends from all around the world so that we will have a place to stay when we travel!
