know your rights UNDER SB4

UNDOCUMENTED PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS. But it is a commonly circulated myth, to believe the opposite. Being unaware of your rights, as an undocumented person, can have serious consequences. It is the reality of living under the Trump administration.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is an agency whose purpose is to find people lacking documentation, incarcerate them in detention centers, and eventually deport them. To avoid being separated from loved ones, it is important to educate yourself on the following:

  • Understand what laws affect immigrants in Texas such as SB4
  • Know Your Rights

The ACLU has created a series of animated videos (available in many languages) to inform immigrants on what to do if you encounter ICE.

SENATE BILL 4 (SB4)

As of March 13th, 2019

SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS LAW

SB4 is a law that was passed in Texas and puts undocumented immigrants in danger more than ever. SB4 allows police officers to act like ICE agents. Police can now question anyone about their immigration status. This also means that police are working with ICE.

The police CANNOT stop you solely based on your race. If you feel like you have been pulled over because of the color of your skin, your appearance, your wardrobe, the car you drive, or your accent - that is racial profiling - which is against the law.
